Does anyone else like watching cooking shows? It is basically where I learned to cook because my parents were never great cooks.

I am watching everyday food on PBS right now. The lady was cooking some cauliflower and it looked so good. Then she put in some fleshy chicken thighs, . Awwwwwww that cauliflower looked so good on it's own. The she was cooking some nice shallots and she put bloody old pork chops in, sigh. She took the chops out and added some parsnips. It looked so good with out the pork. I would love to see someone cook veggies with out the meat, it would help me learn how to prepare meatless dishes in appealing ways. She did make a nice salad with bulgar, fried chick peas, roasted peppers and spinach. But waaa why not show people how to cook veggies with out meat????

There must be enough people out there in the world today who would be interested in this sort of thing? Are the networks like PBS, Food, and Cooking blind?

Even the food networks Iron Chef vegetarian was a mess! While Mario Batali was good, the quest who was vegetarian, added so much dairy and egg, it may as well of been meat.

I'd love, love, love! a vegan cooking show, and I do mean VEGAN! Even when I included dairy, I still opted for vegan cookbooks. Theres so much out there that's covered in cheese, and has eggs involved.
Isa Moskowitz, Robin Robertson, Coleen Patrick Rosseau they all would be fabulous!

There's a show on the Create channel (for me it is one of the public TV HD channels) called Christina Cooks - it's vegan. I find the Christina's voice and personality abrasive sometimes, but I do watch it occasionally. Her partner also sings and plays guitar on the show, and I'm not such a big fan of the music. Unfortunately, she is lacking some of the polish that other TV chefs have, so sometimes the food ends up looking bland and unappealing. She also sometimes makes dubious claims about the health properties of foods.

But, overall, I do think she has some good ideas for meals, and I'm glad that there's one cooking show where I don't have to worry that they're going to pull out a big slab of meat!

Have you guys checked out Hungry Girl? I believe she is on the Cooking channel. She isn't vegan but very frequently uses tofu, meat subs, almond milk, etc. Most of her snacks that don't use vegan food you can just replace. I've tried a few of her recipes and they were pretty awesome.

I watch quite a few cooking shows. Cooking Channel had a one hour special called Veg Edge a while ago, but it was a personality profile piece rather than instructional or demonstrations. Right now the best (and most frequent) appearances of vegan cooks is on Cupcake Wars, which has had 3 vegan bakers appear (with 2 winning the show they appeared on).

One thing that bugs me (other than Bourdain!) - most TV cooks measure flour incorrectly. They dip and scoop with a measuring cup. Horrible technique. You should spoon it into the measuring cup. Doing it incorrectly can cause the recipe to fail.

I wish the Neelys were veg*n. I'm not a lovey dovey type person but those two are just so adorable together and so cute to watch. Cooking together as a couple seems like a great bonding activity in a relationship.

Another show I've seen a few episodes of is Gen's Guiltless Gourmet on one of the public channels (probably Create). Her show isn't completely vegan but she addresses veganism and vegan alterations to recipes.

If you have Veria (its one of our cable channels on Verizon FiOS), there is a woman who does a show called Naturally Delicious. I can't recall if she is vegetarian or vegan, but there are no animal products. Her style is a little dry, but they also have commentary by a veg friendly dietician at the end of the show.

I watch alot of food network and cooking channel... I tivo Bobby Flay's Boy Meets Grill, The Neely's, Good Eats and 5 ingredient fix, I either just take out the meat, sub in something else for it in their recipes, or if its just them cooking a steak ill just fast forward through that part. I do kinda wish there was something better on but i have seen plenty of episodes just dedicated to Veggies.

Quote:

I always weigh flours when baking. Avoids (mostly) the problems with measuring cups.

You know Rachel Ray's 30 minute fix is NOT vegetarian but she does tend to tell you how to make at least portions of her dishes vegetarian, and Giadia's show yesterday was almost totally vegetarian. However like all of you I was sitting there watching it thinking how badly I wanted a veg show to be on.

I feel the same way. I LOVE cooking shows, but I hate all the meat. I watch them mainly for inspiration, besides it's fun to think up meat substitutes.
