The Vegetarian Family Cookbook by Nava Atlas, hands down. Nearly every recipe is vegan or has a vegan option (which is usually unheard of in books labelled 'vegetarian'!), and every recipe I've tried has been a success! The instructions are easy to follow and there aren't any 'weird' ingredients like you encounter in some veg cookbooks. And I also appreciate the embellishments, etc that are offered- most recipes contain a "for picky eaters" section, which explains how to break down the meal for younger eaters, a "embellish it" section, to jazz things up for more mature palates, and a "make it a meal" section, which suggests dishes it's paired well with. It makes meal planning easy, hehe. EDIT: Also, I really appreciate that all the baked goods are *tasty*, low-sugar/fat, and whole-wheat.

It doesn't have any bread recipes, but that's what the internet and old family recipes are for, right?

Seconded! The recipes are mostly easy and the book itself is fun to read. Everything is delicious and totally worth the time to make. What makes it even better: there is an active internet forum run by Isa Chandra Moskowitz (the author) over at www.theppk.com where you can get pictures and feedback on almost all the recipes..

When I looked it up on Amazon, there were currently 62 reviews of that book there. Of those 62 reviews, all but 2 reviewers gave it 5 stars. And even the two who did not give it 5 stars acknowledged that they thought highly of the book. So I doubt I could possibly go wrong ordering it. But I need something else to go with it to go over the $25 mark so I can get free shipping. Ive been eyeing The Mediterranean Vegan Kitchen for awhile; does anybody have this book, and would you recommend it?

I don't have The Mediterranean Vegan Kitchen, but it is always highly recommended by people on vegetarian/vegan messageboards. Just do a search for it on VB and I'm sure that you'll find threads with people talking about it.

I love The PPK forums. It's so helpful to have all sorts of people give you advoce and tips on recipes.

I've looked at The Meditarranean Vegan Kitchen at the bookstore and everything looked amazing! I would have purchased it myself if I had the money. Maybe next paycheck. . .

Persoanlly, I love the Vegan with a Vengence, cuz the recipees are REALLY good. The PPK is life....

....But if I had to use one for the rest of my life, it would be Vegetarian 5-Ingredient Gourmet by Nava Atlas. Like the Vegetarian Family Cookbook, she has everything either vegan or with a vegan option. I like it because it's tight on money around here, and all the recipees are 5 ingredients or less, and take like 20 minute to make.
