Can anyone suggest some really good Christian CD's? I mostly like really upbeat, songs of praise kind of stuff. I have Women of Faith and Jackie Velasquez and another mixed CD that used to be advertised on TV a lot but can't remember the name of it. Thanks!

Are you looking for recent stuff only, or can we go back several years? I've kind of pulled back from the CCM scene for the past few years. The advantage to slightly older music is it tends to be less expensive than new releases.

Rebecca St. James is certainly upbeat much of the time. She's praise-centric and has quite a discography.

I don't know if they're around anymore, but Anointed had several awesome CDs of praise music with a black gospel bent.

Likewise with Nichole Nordeman, I don't know what she's done lately. I appreciated her willingness to tackle hard questions in her music. Her music is more folk/soulful than perpetually upbeat.

Other artists you might like: Darlene Zchech, Winans Phase 2, Salvador, and Larue. If someone gives you a Nikki Leonti CD, you're best off using it as a coaster. She was a sanitized version of bubble-gum pop and really got the Jesuses-per-minute going. I don't think she's made anything in years.

*shrugs* I might have missed it, but I haven't noticed ReliantK and Superchick doing much praise-oriented music. It's Christian music, sure, but that can be about lots of things other than praise. I'm totally out of the loop on KJ-52.

I'm not really knowledgeable about CCM. I've downloaded some stuff and listen to it but I don't know much about the artists or the history and stuff.

Do you have iTunes? If you do you can go to their store and look around and listen to snippets of songs. If you put in praise and worship in the search different artists will come up and then there are other recommended artists.

Not praise and worship, but interesting is Jars of Clay's Redemption Songs cd. It's hymns with different arrangements, it's more like folk-rock/Americana and it's good. I really like their version of I'll Fly Away, but being from the South I'm partial to those kind of old timey hymns and gospel music.

Also Mary Mary, she's not new but I think she falls squarely into the praise and worship category personally love her song Shackles (Praise You)

Dámaris Carbaugh is one of my all time favorites. Point of Grace, Twila Paris, and Cheri Keaggy also rate high on the list. Moving beyond female vocalists, Casting Crowns, Newsong, Michael W. Smith, and Phillips, Craig, & Dean rate pretty highly. Oh, and Michael W. Smith. Good music, plus one of his concerts was what *finally* got me to agree to go out on that first date with hubby.

The WOW Worship series is a good starting point if you want to be exposed to a variety of artists.
