I have a pretty good feeling that this will be the only post in here for a while, or possibly forever, but hi! I'm in Fairfield County.
I'll visit you here since you were kind enough to pay my little state a visit.
I live in NYC but my Fiancee (Poesia) was living in CT. when we met. I though that South Norwalk was too far and it might never work before we met in person, but it is funny how love makes distance get much shorter.
I used to live on Bell Island in Rowayton. That was before I moved to NYC, then onto Ma.
oh wow, cool! Baby - I live in Darien. Small world!

Maddie, where in CT?

Nice!
Oh, and RichBeBe -- NYC and Norwalk are not that far! A 55-minute train ride to GCT or probably even shorter drive depending on where you are in NYC. But I'm sure it seems far away when you're not with the one you love.

Spa-Girl,

Are there any good veggie restaurants in or around Darien? The last time I visited Rowayton, about six monthes ago, I went to a restaurant that took the place of The Five Mile Grille, in the town center. It was pretty cute and had great salads and great bread. I would love to hear some suggestions on where to get a complete vegetarian meal, if you have any to share.

I would love to move back there some day. When I lived in NY I would take the train up to Darien for the day, and either rollerblade or bike around.

I try to stop in when I'm driving from Ma. down to NYC, but that doesn't happen too often if I'm traveling with my BF. He get's very jealous about it because he thinks I'm reminiscing about the guy I used to live there with. Little does he realize, he was the worst part of living there.

Well, the only veggie place I know of is The Lime Restaurant in South Norwalk. The menu is only about 80% vegetarian (they also serve some fish and maybe even chicken, not sure) but the stuff they have is great. Most of the things can be vegan-ized, too. I've only been there once but really enjoyed it. It's very small and crowded so the atmosphere is not great, but the menu is big and creative so it's definitely worth it.

Glad you're out of a bad relationship and onto better things!

Thanks Girlie! I'll check it out nice time I'm in the area.
spa girl- I am in a small town in middlesex county and commute to Connecticut College in new london. if you are ever in middletown there is a great restaurant that used to be vegan and now has a couple of fish items and real cheese is optional called its only natural. are you near greenwhich (sp?), i think there is an organic veg restaurant there.
I'm in Connecticut too...I grew up in Middletown. It's Only Natural is a fabulous restaurant. They are serving some fish dishes in season, though. And they discovered that offering real cheese brings in patrons that would otherwise run screaming when offered soy cheese and soy mayo.
Their desserts are heavenly and are all vegan...if I can convince my fiance of it, our wedding cake will be from there!

speaking of great veg restaurants in CT, Don't forget Claire's in New Haven!!!!!!!!!

i have a cookbook from there, haven't actually been able to get there yet, argh
p.s. my gramma lives in Middletown an everytime we go see her, we always pass by It's Only Natural, always wanted to stop in....
theres an awesome health food store in Norwalk, CT called Food For Thought...

everytime i visit my parents, i make sure to go there

they have a deli area that has things like baked tofu (sooo good), sweet potato and kale soup, and veggies

they also have a dessert section where you can get the most fabulous cookies and some good cakes

everything that is vegan is labeled as vegan

and the chocolate cherry chunk and the chocolate orange cookies are simply to die for

also... theres a restaurant called Bloodroot in Bridgeport CT

its owned by vegetarian lesbian feminists and they have a bookstore too...

they used to be really mean to guys, but now everyone who goes there loves it

the best time to go is on sunday... they have a brunch with scrambled tofu, sunflower seed bread, homemade soysage patties, and homefries... they also usually have vegan pancakes and sometimes vegan muffins

the food is pricey, but awesome!

their dinners are hit or miss as the menu changes every night

my wyfe and i are here in hartford ct... a pretty good place to be vegan. we're close to ion, garden of light, lots of whole foods markets and veggie restaurants. we've heard about bloodroot, but haven't been. they have kind of a bad reputation around here... not their food, but they sound kind of hostile. we'll probably check it out for ourselves though.
theres also china pan in farmington

green pages are vegetarian!

woohoo
