Hey all!

Ok So ive been a vegetarian for nearly 11 years now (since I was 10!!) and have never though that regular drinks wouldnt be vegetarian. I recently found out from a vegan colleague that some drinks by Coca-Cola are not vegetarian!! Now I've checked the bottles of the drinks by them that have a trace of fish in them and no where on the bottle does it state fish is contained and that it is not suitable for vegetarians, so if vegetarians didnt know that this ingredient contained fish they've been drinking it! I've copied the stuff from the coca-cola website below. Im debating taking this further with coca-cola and other brands such as britvic, whos are the exact same, do u think I have a case?

"Can you tell me which of your products are suitable for vegetarians?

None of the products of Coca-Cola Great Britain contain ingredients derived from mammals. As some practicing vegetarians avoid fish products as well, it is important to note that some of our products contain minute traces of fish gelatine, which is used as a stabiliser for the beta-carotene colour. These products are:

'Fanta' Orange and 'Fanta' Zero Orange

'Lilt ' and 'Lilt' Zero

'Five Alive' Squash Citrus Burst

'Five Alive' Squash Tropical Hit

'Kia-Ora' Orange Squash and 'Kia-Ora' Orange Squash no added sugar

'Kia-Ora' Orange & Pineapple Squash and 'Kia-Ora' Orange & Pineapple Squash no added sugar

'Minute Maid' Orange & Passionfruit with Calcium

'Schweppes' Slimline Orange Crush

'Schweppes' Deuce no added sugar Orange & Guava "

Whoa blimey...Fanta isn't veggie I mean, I don't drink it that often but it's nice every now and then. I'd never have realised...they should definitely say that it's not veggie on the label.

Thanks so much for this - I only found this out last weekend when I read the McDonalds menu and it said Fanta wasn't vegetarian.

In general, if a juice is clear, chances are it's been clarified with gelatin. I've never given it much thought, but this would affect natural juice sodas too.

Gosh... I never would have known that! Why don't they put that on the bottle?

I've drank some of these drinks while I've been veg*n and never thought there could have been anything wrong with it...

Not all, but certainly most do. I would still drink Fanta Orange, despite the beta carotene stabalizer. It doesn't strike me as a big deal.

Keep in mind though that this thread is specifically related to Coke products in the United Kingdom. No Coke products in the United States contain animal products unless it's specifically stated on the label.

Its only for Fanta in UK. Fanta in the US or India should not have this.

Why anyone in India would buy Coca Cola products is beyond me.
