I was in Denver over the weekend, and a group of us went to Champs Sports Bar and Restaurant. The place was an overpriced, yuppie kind of place on the South end of Denver. Out of about 40 menu choices, I couldn't find one Vegetarian entree. I ordered the Soup and Salad. The soup was Potato, which may have been suspect.<br><br><br><br>
So as not to disturb my fellow diners, I privately told management what I thought of their offerings for animal lovers.<br><br><br><br>
I'm assuming this place is a chain similar to Applebees, etc, because it had that same look and feel.<br><br><br><br>
I think it's important that we voice up when we see these types of restaurants.

That's sort of like Cracker Barrel, there is literally one thing to order. The vegetable plate. Of those you can only choose a few things that are vegetarian. If you're vegan, I think the applesauce is the only thing.

I think there's bacon in the applesauce at Cracker Barrel. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/inquisitive.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=":stinkeye:"><br><br><br><br><img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/wink3.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=";)">

There is a Champs restaurant here in Irvine, CA. Been there, but only order drinks during the NBA season. Never really saw the menu items, but its pretty obvious whats in there.<br><br><br><br>
I would never trust a restaurant unless its veg*n friendly.

Even then you can't trust some of them.<br><br><br><br>
I went to Milestone's for a business lunch, and it's known to be all "healthy" ( <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=""> ) and veg-friendly. I asked the waitress if a salad on the menu had anything of animal origin in it or the dressing I wanted. She said no. It came with a huge slab of cheese on top (it was NOT listed in the menu description) and when I pointed that out she was like "oh, you're vegan? I think the dressing has egg in it too."<br><br><br><br><img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/wall.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=":wall:">

Wow, our local Cracker Barrel doesn't even have the vegetable plate. When I went there I had to order a bagel-- plain-- and pop. Everything else had meat or other objectionable stuff.

We have those Champs here in Chicago too. They are pretty bad...When I wasn't vegan, I ate their nachoes a long time and those were bad in general too.<br><br><br><br>
Now, you can't even know if the bread is safe to eat. Lots of bread has milk or eggs added.....Does it really need it? Probably not. If I go to Panera, I have to be careful which bread or bagel I get.

It is hard finding food at restaurants to eat. Even if they say it's vegetarian, doesn't mean it is. I have heard stories from people on here saying they found out a so-called vegetarian soup had chicken broth in it, gross! If there are comment cards at restaurants, fill them out and say they need more veg options. Or you can talk to the manager or something. But I agree, more people need to speak up about it. Places like Finley's, Applebee's, and many others are just not veg friendly. It's like it's impossible for them to make a dish without a dead animal in it.

Is this the restaurant you're referring to? We have them here, too. They are so over-rated.

yeah, the last time i went to champps was most definatley, literally my last time. since going vegan, i was clueless as what to eat, due to their lacking of options and ended up with a garden salad without cheese and crutons with the most nasty tasting balsamic vinigarette, to go over my not so fresh salad. yuck

That's the one! I went to the Park Meadows, Denver location. Looks like it's Champps with 2 P's. I didn't notice that. Of course, there wasn't much memorable to notice anything.

I find it best to stick with non-chain local ethnic restaurants. I have had good success at local Japanese, Chinese, Lebanese, and Greek restaurants, to name a few.

I normally do the same, especially when my wife and I go out to dinner. But in this case, I was out with a group of people, and they all raved about Champps.
