I just saw a cell phone commercial (I think it was Cingular Wireless?) and it featured a guy in a bar with a girl. She went to the bathroom and he quickly called another guy and said, "Dude, she says she's a vegan. What's a vegan?" and the other guy said, "She has pointed ears?"

And the commercial said "Cingular Wireless, for those quick calls." or something to that nature.

I not sure whether or not to be amused? I can't believe I heard the word 'vegan' on TV. So weird.

I saw it tonight during '24.' It was so brief that it was confusing. It was, like, a 15 second spot. Great that it gets the word out there, and associates it with an attractive woman. Not-so-great in that it leaves viewers hanging and going, "Hunh?" Requires to much thought and knowledge for the average Joe, I'm afraid (this is from the response I heard from a couple of people in the room that also saw it).

they mentioned it on Angel last night too. i'll try not to spoil it for those who haven't seen it yet but this family's sitting around eating dinner and they start bugging the older boy about his girlfriend and the little girl goes "she's a vegan!!" and everyone laughs and rolls their eyes at her

I didn't like it at all. It's another commercial making fun of vegans, using prejudice views. I also hate the "Happy Cow" commercials here in California and the one (I forget the subject) where a chicken is thrown so hard it hits a sign and falls, like that's supposed to be funny. And the

"Crack in the Box" commercial where it's "Vegans vs. Omnivores"; and, of course, the vegan team are a bunch of skinny weaklings who can't play, much less win...again, supposed to be funny???

I guess, I've just seen too many of these, and it's not funny -- it just plays into the stereotypes. And that cel commercial is implying that a vegan female is ugly. Ahh, just don't like it. Maybe I've just seen too many and I *really* have an issue with prejudices.

I've not seen the advertisement, but I don't believe by the sound of it that it's making fun of vegans. It's commenting rather on the fact that people aren't aware of what veganism is.

And I love the smirnoff advertisement.

I saw the commercial and I thought that if it was making fun of anyone, it was the "good ol' boys" who don't know what a vegan is. But then, I've been called overconfident and I almost never feel insulted...so maybe I miss alot.

i think the cell commercial is commenting more on the guys' ignorance. they mistake the word vegan for the word vulcan. come on that's just funny

BTW, vulcans, as a "more highly evolved species" adopted veganism awhile ago.
The "bad vulcans"--the renegades and maurauders--turned back to omnivorism.

In a way, vegan/vulcan does make some sense.

Maybe I misheard, but I could swear a Budweiser commercial just used the word vegan. These people are ordering a meal at a restaurant, and a woman is being picky, and I think she made a comment about a vegan sandwich and then made a comment about vegans that I didn't catch (made it to the TV too late), and the waiter moves on to the guy who orders a rare steak, all the trimmings, etc., rattling them off to the waiter's approval, then back to the deliberating woman, who is now discussing some shrimp dish.

Anyone see this commercial? Can you fill in the blanks?
