Yesterday morning my cat went in for a cleaning yesterday at 8:00. They initially thought that she would have to have one tooth removed, but they removed five. We brought her home around 3:30, and since she refused to eat her dry food mixed with a little water, my mom bought her canned food and she's been eating that.

We just tried her dry food mixed with water now, but she refused it so I added a little bit of canned, so whether or not she eats it, I don't know.

Tomorrow she starts on her medication. She has to take one pill with food everyday for a week or so. The vet forgot to give us a "pill popper" as we call it at the animal shelter. I've never given a cat pills before. She hates to be picked up. Prior to her surgery I tried to get her used to my finger so I could clean her teeth... very little luck.

Could I hide the pill in the wet food? I let her lick the spoon and she gulped it right down, or do you have any other suggestions?

How long until she is able to eat her dry food, dry, again?

Thank you.

You can't fool cats with meds in food. Best way is just shove it down their throat.

With one hand, grab her upper jaw at the corners of her mouth, pull it back. With your other hand, stick the pill into her mouth as far back as you can get it. Shut the mouth and hold closed until she swallows.

Takes practice, but it really is the easiest way. I find cats fight more with the pill popper than with your fingers.

It might be a few days before she will want to eat dry food again. Keep offering it, but in the meantime, soft food is best.

I have been able to "fool" cats with meds in their food. It depends on the cat. If it's a bigger pill, break it up pretty small.

My dad made me try getting her to take it with food.

She was BEGGING and BEGGING, so I took a spoonful of wet food (which she loves) and stuck the pill in there. I tried to get her to lick it out of the spoon, but when that wasn't working, I smushed the food and the pill up against the side of the dish. She gulped down that chunk and then cleaned her dish.

So yay!

I'm glad you've found a way to get her to take her pills! I haven't had to give my cats pills, but I have had to give one liquid antibiotics... that took force-a lot, I couldn't imagine giving pills. But I hope your kitty cat continues to take them and feels better soon. <3
