Carb / sugar cravings?

So I'm 2 weeks in being 100% vegetarian (and mostly vegan!), and my anxiety is completely manageable!

I'm not really even craving meat or cheese at this point.. Instead, I'm craving carbs! I seriously at a ton of rice for dinner (with broccoli & daiya)... What does that mean? What might my body be telling me, eh?

Oh, and I also had tofu & spinach lasagna for lunch. So I figured I wasn't hurting for protein or anything.
From a quick Google search I found a few possibilities for these cravings. One was being low on serotonin so... depression of sorts? The other said "carbohydrate cravings are a biochemical response to low blood sugar."

I hope you're not low on serotonin! There are loads of ways to boost this if you are low.

If it's low blood sugar there are lower carb ways to healthfully boost that as well.

Personally when I'm craving carbs I'll go for a protein option which is filling and gets the job done! Usually some sort of protein filled veggie patty, nut butters, beans, quinoa, a bowl of cereal (soy milk) or tofu.

Please take care! I'm glad you're doing so well thus far <3
One of the commonest problems for new nearly-vegans is not getting enough calories.
Healthy, low fat, vegan food has a much lower caloric density than most omni food so the portions grow.
You may just need the calories.
Ride it out and see what happens.

Be prepared for people to envy you. I'm whip thin with a flat belly while most guys my age look 8 months pregnant and when people see the size of my meals they often show a mixture of shock and jealousy, "thats enough for an army" lol

Carbohydrates are not the enemy, they are fuel for our cells. Eat! :)
It probably means you're hungry! ;) Carbs are good for you. If you're craving candy, dried fruit makes a tasty treat.
yea u are hungry and i m hungry right now i could eat a broccoli right now.
My entire life I've craved carbs, esp. the salty, crispy, somewhat greasy ones. And sugar.
Being veg'n hasn't changed that either way, although I now eat whole grains good for me ones (mostly)

Man I envy you. I'm as lean as you are but I've been starving for the last five years. I have to count every gram of fiber and measure dinner out in a plastic cup. I get sick as all hell if I eat more than what should feed a 12-year-old. Enjoy your genetics.

Hi Cherry, you might try entering your diet into Cronometer. It'll show your nutrient intake vs RDAs, so you can figure out if you have any deficiencies.

https://cronometer.com/

You can also calculate your BMR, add in exercise, and see if you're getting enough calories in a day.

Enjoy your new diet. Spinach lasagna sounds delicious.

I think maybe I have been a little low on calories! I tracked my food intake on my fitness pal for a few days... Everything I eat is so filling though. It's nice to be able to eat 2nds without worrying about calories, though! Hehe I can eat more

Yes! That's the most common thing that happens when people go veg--too few calories. So eat! :)
I mostly stick to the 80-10-10 diet and I feel AMAZING. Carb the fun up! ;)
So maybe you are just hungry, eat more since I've read such things like, calories are not created equally. Carbs can be digested and transferred to energy more quickly and efficiently compared to fat and protein. Therefore I think a vegan based majorly on carbs could eat even more calories than the average calorie intake. In my personal case, eating as high as 3,000+ calories per day is just enough to keep my weight, 5'5'', 130 lbs male.
