I've never drunk one in my life, but I had this in a letter from a friend who has a capuccino machine in his kitchen.

"Did you know I'm pretty vegan these days? Soya milk, soya yogurt - It's just those capuccinos which are so utterly

addictive. And soya milk won't froth."

Anybody got any ideas for froth?

when i make soy milk in our new soy milk maker, there are incredible amounts of froth in the cannister when it's finished! i've thought to myself many times that it would be excellent on top of a soy cappucino...but don't have an espresso machine to make one with. (a cappucino is espresso mixed with lots of milk, right?)

I assume so, and for some reason I think it has chocolate on it too. I just have black instant myself. But it's one veggie nearer to being vegan even with the capuccino. Wean, damn you wean

I make soy cappucinos at work all the time.

The soy milk always foams up REALLY well... never had a problem with it...

Cappucino: Espresso with milk foam, and maybe a bit of the milk itself

Latte: Espresso with steamed milk (lots) and maybe a bit of foam on top

Mocha: Latte with chocolate

Macchiatto: Espresso with equal parts foam and milk

Americano: Espresso with hot water

Cafe au lait: Drip coffee with steamed milk

every shop has its own variations of these, but in general, this is what you can expect

i dunno but i discovered starbucks carries soymilk, the iced caps are premixed with milk but you can ask for an iced coffee with soymilk and a shot of chocolate flavour, and it's really good.

i never really liked froth anyway lol. at the coffeehouse back home before it shut down i'd always get a sumatran or a mocha milkshake. those things were damn good! i wanna try making them with soy one day. he used to make them with homemade chocolate syrup and a shot of espresso blended with ice cream. heaven.

I used to be a Coffee Jerk/Waitress in a little french bistro. I never had a problem with soy foaming. If he/she is making it at HOME that's probably the more likely culprit.

Home machines are harder to froth upon, and soy being of different ilk than milk (good rhyme, huh?), a poor frother might have more bother (ahhhh. another good one.) with soy than milk.

Also, Randy's above assesment of coffee chemistry is correct- 'cept for one thing I am wondering about.

I always was taught that lattes were made, as above, but NEVER with foam.

Cappucinos were the same as lattes, but with more esspresso coffee, less milk (though enough to fill the cup), and froth-

while a Macchiato was the esspresso shot with a dab of froth on top. (little cup)

Cafe au lait here and in France is made exactly as the latte above. (Esspresso and steamed milk) The two terms are interchangeable here.

Silk soymilk makes mocha flavor now. It's addictive. I drink about 3 containers a week. I never was much of a coffee drinker. I worked at Starbuck's when they first introduced soy milk, and it's insane how much we sold. Most of them weren't vegans, though.

no starbucks does it for the healthnut yuppy types. a lot of them switch to soy just because it's "less fatenning". whatever.

i bought a new soymilk brand (new to me) called Natura... it's really good!! i never tried it because it's in those tetra packs that are kept on shelves rather than in the coolers, and i always prefered buying the cold ones before, but this one was on sale and i didn't want a huge 2 litre thing so i went for it, got the chocolate one. yumm!! i have tomorrow off so if i get frisky and have time amongst cleaning and stuff, i might make a mocha. and those oatmeal cookie things

you've missed paying three pounds for a large cup of strong, but fairly mediocre coffee, teri.

Yeah! No Starbucks in OB or Canterbury! YEAHH! (I got your backs!)

Unfortunately Montreal is crawling with them. They even turned the old Anton Wilfer Luthier into one.

Blasphemy.

I don't really go there often, but on the occasion I have (usually with other people) I have found it highly sub-par.

For ridiculously over-priced coffee produced in inhumane manners I prefer Java U. There is one near, and in, my school. They are all about soy, and have vegan muffins even.

And I think their Coffee has crack in it. It's good. Oh yeah. Full of crack. I'm pretty sure.

actually there is a Starbucks in OB, right on the main drag. the good folks in OB picketed, signed petitions, went to the media, asked starbucks nicely and did everything else they could to keep the bucks out of OB, but Starbucks came in anyway. i still see signs and bumpersticker and hear angry conversations about it a year later.

http://www.activistsandiego.org/aler...wncouncil.html

OK, it's official. I made cappuccino with soya milk. I think. It might've been Macchiatto. I nuked some soya then whizzed it with a Braun handheld and got 30% froth. I think this is probably the first coffee with soya milk I ever had!

I've got a stinking cold and it was very comforting. I could go right back to sleep this minute..........zzzzzzzzzzzz
