Hey guys,

This is my first post in this area of the forums. I'm kind of in a situation - and no one seems to be able to figure things out. I eat enough food, I have been taking multivitamins, and drinking more soy stuff with protein in it. I've got a plethora of health conditions (over 17 of em) - including 2 stomach conditions - GERD and IBS. I've also got fibromyalgia. How does this come into play? Well in the past year, and more singificantly, in a period of about 3 months, I lost 30+ lbs, without trying, without a change in exercise, or diet. I've stumped my doctors - they don't know whats going on. They were happy when I was able to stabilize it for months, but I managed to lose 5.5 lbs in less than a week a couple weeks ago, and I'm more than worried.

I want to weigh about 110, and continue to push myself with my yoga, and exercise that is suitable with my health conditions, but at the same time, I know at this point, it would probably destroy my body to do much. I weigh 88 lbs - and I'm 5ft even.

I'm scared quite frankly, and rightfully so. I'm looking for any help that won't upset my stomach conditions, but will help me be able to put some body weight back on, so I can function at a normal capacity - I'm tired all the time. I still eat at least 3 meals a day with snacks, and healthy drinks, and lots of water, but regardless of what I do, I'm stuck. I've exhausted the medical community - and so I'm coming to you guys for help.

I know there's a lot of suppliments out there - but I don't know which ones are good, veggie friendly, and lactose free. I'm medically considered anorexic due to my low bmi, but I have no desire to lose weight, or not eat - its the opposite. I love the way my body looked, and now, I can't fit into anything, and I worry.

I have a lot of stressful things going on, which I could probably attribute to the 5.5lbs loss in the last little while, but aside from that, not being able to get past approx. 92-93 lbs is still not good.

Any advice you might be able to offer would be more than greatly appreciated. The doctors have ruled out everything possible, and my medications can cause weight loss, but only due to lack of appetite - which though I don't necessarily always have the desire to eat, I always have the desire to cook, and then the insatiable food must be eaten, if you know what I mean.

A little lost - and hopefully not offending anyone.

Most sincerely, and thankful for anyone who reads this or responds,

sorry to hear about your troubles...

i have known two people in the same situation as you...very thin and wasting, with tons of intestinal disturbances and exhaustion...they both turned out to have celiac disease after having the required blood tests...now they follow a gluten free diet (the protein found in wheat and wheat relatives) and they are 100 percent better...

my mother has celiac disease so i was raised in a gluten free household...i have seen firsthand the change it had on my mom!

i would ask your doctor to send you to an allergy doc or do the blood work for you...

its worth a try!

good luck!

:Hi:

GERD means you have enough acid to digest, IBS doesn't much interfere with absorption of nutrients, and fibromyalgia has nothing to do with weight loss.

Did you check how much calories you eat per days? Just try for a couple of days to be on the save side, sometimes it looks like a lot and doesn't contain as many calories as expected.

Do you suffer from any consuming disease or hyperthyroidism? (Sorry, I forgot, what you posted in the FM thread?)

Lothar

Could you post a sample menu of what you eat (including portions sizes) for a day or two? It would help us be able to make suggestions!

Though there is a possibility of how much I eat being a part of maintaining a certain weight - the weight loss of over 30+ lbs has been attributed mostly to medications I've taken in the past that have made me very sick. I'm getting better with remembering to eat (I don't get hunger feelings), and eating small more regular meals than larger ones - but I still manage to get quite enough food and calories. I don't know - I'm going to ask my GP to do a blood sample to see if my anemia has come back, and if other nutrients may be affecting it. I know that the extreme heat in the last weeks hasn't been good - neither has the stress I've been under. I'm pretty out of it right now, but I thought I'd give an update to the best of my ability - I don't have a scale at home, but I've been told by my boyfriend that it looks like I've gained some weight. Though I do feel quite sluggish still. hmm..

But I remember a few where it's unclear like methotrexate and sulfasalazin and anorexia can occur that isn't due to loss of appetite. Just an additional idea.
