The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) is proposing guidelines on what constitute charitable status for animal welfare organizations. Under current proposals, many animal welfare organizations would lose their charitable status because the CRA defines them as charitable ONLY when there are Benefits to HUMANS. If the benefits to animals come into conflict with benefits to humans, the organizations will lose their charitable status. The CRA is asking for comments on these guidelines and is only accepting comments until March 31, 2011. Write to the CRA today to let it know what you think!

http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/chrts-gvng/.../pwcr-eng.html

WHAT. THE. HECK. Isn't the purpose of an animal welfare organisation to serve, you know, animals? Humans have quite a lot of their own.
