I have been wanting to lose some weight for a few months now, and finally have the motivation to do it. I plugged in what I ate into www.calorie-count.com yesterday. I was about 200 cals over what they suggested, but my main concern is calorie distribution. I can fix the 200 calories without much trouble -- no nilla wafers!

This is what I ended up with:

Fat - 30.5% (79 grams)

Protein - 10.7% (63 grams)

Carbohydrates - 55.4% (323 grams)

Alcohol - 3.4% (11 grams)

To me it seems like too many carbs as lately I have been a couch potato...(hurt IT band from running). What is everyone's suggestion for % of each category?

Here's some info about me that might help...age 21, male, need to lose about 10-20 lbs. Lately very inactive. I'm not normally so lazy, I'm going to try to start strengthening my leg this weekend. Alcohol is not an every day occurence...

Thanks for your help!

As of lately I have no exercise routine while I'm trying to heal my IT band...its getting better though, it used to hurt just walking. Normally I would run 2-3 miles about 3 times per week as well as do some moderate strength training on those days immediately following the run.

I'm sure I'll get destroyed for what I eat on a daily basis...haha...here is my

You should be doing something for exercise such as an upper body routine, even if it's light.

You may be getting enough calories for the day, but your intake is so spread out with only 3-4 meals your body is going to hang on to it. Eat 6 times per day. Get away from processed foods. Get away from cheese. Your fat intake for cutting should be about 20% (but not less).

Here is some help for your meal planning:

http://www.bodyforlife.com/nutrition/guidelines.asp

I registered at that site a while ago and was actually surprised to find as many veggie products as I did! There were a few items I had to add myself. But once you add it....it's there for the next time you eat it.
