Ahhh, the time I look forward to each year... when my beloved Maple Leafs take to the ice and try to win a championship (I've been waiting since I was 3 years old for them to do it again).

Today is the beginning of the NHL Playoffs.

For anyone who follows it... who's your team and who's your picks for the finals?

As much as I love the Leafs, I think they're in for a tough series against the Flyers and certainly Ottawa and New Jersey will be tough competitiors in the Eastern Conference.

The West is just loaded with talent and should make for some great hockey games. Vancouver and Detroit I think are the teams to beat in the West.

My pick... Leafs vs. Detroit in the cup finals.

(I really really hope the Leafs make it this year... I've taken abuse over being a Leafs fan for too long... it'll just kill me if Ottawa wins)

Umm, then why post?

And, umm, am I to assume you think all hockey fans just sit around drinking beer and using computers?

I'm psyched

The Canucks are finally in a good position. If they work through their injuries, they may go far this year.

I'd like to see Vancouver in the finals but it could just as easily be Deitroit or Colorado.

I don't really follow the eastern conference as much so I can't say as much about that.

Western Conference I can definitely see Vancounver in the conference final. But Cloutier needs to stay healthy. He's had a heck of a year and is performng great. And Naslund/Bertuzzi... those two are just incredible. (I'd love for the Leafs to steal Bertuzzi and Jovanosky from you folks)

Hey, where's your Canucks Avatar... spirit... team spirit... show that support

If Cloutier stays healthy and on his game, Naslund and Bertuzzi keep scoring and Linden regains the playoff from he had in the early/mid 90's they have a chance.

BTW, you aren't going to steal them. Especially if the Canucks go far this year

I haven't got an avatar yet but that is a good idea.

My you guys are optimistic! I guess its good to have dreams. So when the finals are over I invite you all to the Hockeytown Cafe. Ill buy you a beer. Then we can all walk over and sit in front of the "Joe" and watch the Red Wings Stanley Cup victory parade. Ive seen it several times and I know just where to sit to get a good view of the greatest hockey team that ever skated.

Ha! See my earlier post... Red Wings versus Leafs... classic 6 matchup. We'll see just how well Cujo performs

Actually I think that the Wings first round is gonna be tough. The Ducks play the Wings well and theres that ugly incident a few years back when they knocked the Wings outa the play-offs. If the Wings have a weak spot it's in goal but Cujo has been coming around. Plus Stevie Y. is getting better each game. Fisher is the only injury that Im aware of. The west is the hardest one to call...there all good. I think thts the only way a East team has a chance to win. That they will play a West team beat up from the trip to the finals.

It kills me to admit this... but I think you're right. Look at that Edmonton/Dallas matchup. Whoever comes out of that one is likely going to need to have a ton of depth to rely on.

Secretly, if the Leafs get knocked out... I'll be pulling for Detroit... this could be Stevie Y's last year and, let's face it, that guys deserves every bit of recognition he gets. There's not a lot of guys you can say gives 110% to their club these days. Yzerman is definitely one of the few. If the Leafs go... I'd be quite content seeing him raise the cup again.

I'm a Senator's fan but unforunately I don't think they'll go all the way. They lack consistency at times. Regardless, I'm looking forward to some great hockey.

Don Cherry is still around. And still controverisal as ever. You should have seen his little rant on Coach's Corner about how the Canadian Government refused to give any support whatsoever to the US. He was pretty disgusted by our govt's refusal.

Can't discuss the war here or Michael will blow a capillary, but suffice it so say... I agree with Cherry on a lot of things

Here's a link to the most recent Don Cherry "Coach's Corner" clips from Hockey Night in Canada. Note, the controverisal march 22nd segment where we went on the Pro-American Rant was removed from the site (CBS is government-owned... censorship is alive and well here)

http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/hnic/coach.html

AuroraLily... come on now... admit it... you Sens fans would love nothing more than to meet the Leafs in the Eastern final and kick our collective butts

I think the Sens are on a mission to prove something this year. They've certainly toughened up compared to previous years.

Beachcombers and King of Kensington... hahah, wow, I had not thought of those in a long time. Have not seen any "Relics" in a long time

As for Canadian TV... I pretty much have the playoffs on every year while I work, and honestly... maybe I'm just biased... but nobody does hockey like the Hockey Night in Canada guys. You know you have a popular sport when the show is on Saturday nights for 50 years and is one of the highest rated shows every year. It constantly amazes me that of all nights, Saturday nights keeps getting such viewership.

I would rather see anybody win then the Avalanche..Im NOT a Roy fan! They got a way to easy first rounder...Minnesota. Thats a problem. I can see that going 4 to zip and the Av's having a nice little rest while they watch the other West teams beat the snot outa each other. plus they have really gotten it together and played well in the last stretch of the season. There dangerous.
