Hi Hamsters,

Well, I fell behind on last weeks goal...just a bit. I was supossed to run on Fri. but I didn't...yesterday I played tennis and did yard work. Today was my long run and I absolutely stunk...I could only do 6 and not well...I had to stop and walk twice...I had nothing in me...nothing. It was a big blow to my runners psyche

I suppose the fact that I was out late at a concert last night and did a little partying might have had something to do with it

This weeks goal will be the same as last week.

about 15 miles during the week + simming add some tennis

then a long run on Sun.

Sky, it would sure be nice if you lived nearby, I would love to play tennis with you.

Flower, no we didn't get up to Kohler/Andrae this weekend...but we will be going soon...maybe next week.

Hope all you Hamsters have a great week!!!

Here's my (more realistic) goals for the week:

Tuesday -- dance 3 hours, upper body weights

Wednesday -- rest. tap & ballet are optional.

Thursday -- 35 minute run, lower body weights, yoga

Friday -- tennis/basketball/swimming... anything that's not running, upper body weights, yoga

Let's see if I do better this week than last week. I only posted two of my dance classes, I'm actaully signed up for 9.

Great goals, everyone! I've got one word of advice, though. I've been noticing that some of you do crunches/ab work every day or several days in a row. Please don't do this! Just like any other muscle that you strength train, you should give your abs at least 48 hours of rest between workouts. If you don't do this, you could become injured more easily and your workouts could suffer. I hope noone takes offense to this. I'm just concerned for you hampsters!

That being said, here are my goals:

3- 1/2 hour sessions of intense cardio

3- full body strength circuit sessions (usually 1/2 hour long)

daily 1/2 hour walks

daily 10 minute stretching session

Today will be a strength session as well as my usual walk & stretch.

Happy hampsterin', all!

Not much, but at least it's something.

I have no goals for this week. Not really my thing. Apart from trying to get moving a little more,I'm afraid laziness is quite my thing.

Hi Hamsters

Last week must have been a hard one for EVERYONE! I never made one of my goals! Between my teech aching, taking care of my mother and quitting my job to take care of my mother......it was a real emotional week!

however......this weekend I had a blast! Yesterday I taught my 60 minute Pilates class and today I took an advanced Pilates class (oh my - I thought I was gonna barf at one point......and I teach a class......hard, hard, hard - my stomach is sore, too). Then this afternoon, my husband and I rented a canoe and went for an hour and 15 minute canoe ride! There was low humidity today and it was so peaceful and beautiful! I got to see a bunch of Egrets AND an Eagles nest, with the eagles flying around! How beautiful!

Right now my husband and I are training for a multisport race on August 9th. There is a 2.5 mile canoe; 20 mile mountain bike (non-technical); 3 mile run and about a 2-3 mile hike with some mountaineering/orienteering with it. I swear - my husband is the most awesome man in the world to do this with me. Most of the time he will come and support me when I do competitions and races.......this time he is going with me. (I can't read a compass to save my life!)

Kitzy........you are AWESOME on the biking! I am so impressed!

Slynny & Rainbowmoon - you guys are great! Just because you didn't run as fast as you thought you could, doesn't mean you gave up! You guys STILL ran! To me - thats the test of a true athlete!(hamster!)

I don't meant to be argumentative. I know you said that out of concern (just like you said). But I just wanted to say that I've read numerous sources that abs, like legs, can be worked most days a week. They are alot more durable than other muscles that need at least 24 hours rest between workouts. There's nothing wrong with doing 60 or even 100 crunches 5 days a week. Unless they are working the abs EXTREMELY hard, in which case I agree with what you said that 48 hours rest is a good idea.

smaurer, Sorry your mom's not doing well; both my parents have been ill for some time so I know how that can be.

I didn't care so much about the time...I just never felt so out of energy! I really wanted to run eight, six miles should have been easy for me...well, relativley. But hey, thanks for the support ...I guess I'm still a little frustrated. good luck on the multisport race, it sounds cool...keep us informed please

Well, that's what I used to think, too. However, new training methods seem to be contradicting that. I've also read a lot of sources that say you can train your lower body & abs most days of the week, but it seems that most newer sources are countering that. Personally, I find that I'm making much better progress not doing it every day. I can do a lot more with them every other day without getting fatigued than when I used to do them every day. Of course, it's up to everyone here to do what they feel is best.

rigmarole- I heard the same thing about abs. Anyway, I don't do too many...like 200 regular crunches and some lower ab work.

Today I wound up swimming for an hour and going for a twenty minute walk, too.

you can. Like flower said, "it's up to everyone here to do what they feel is best."

It's all about what degree of results you're looking for. Do what is right for you so that you keep at it. That's the most important thing.
