HEY Kreeli...it's nice to find a fellow belly dancer on this site. I read that you belly danced, too and thought I'd check around and see who else did, too. I just started taking belly dance lessons this past October, and this May, I will perform my first dance. How long have you been dancing??? I'm truly exiced about performing for the first time. I will be dancing with veils and the number is called Fire.

oh my goodness...i started lessons back in october of 2001, but took a huge long break...i haven't been to a lesson in 8 months now. it's all about the money.

i still try to stay in practice by warming up and doing some moves a few times a week, but i've really gotta get back into it. it is so much fun and great exercise. i'm thinking i'll try to get my hands on a good DVD to practice to. anyone got any suggestions?

congrats on your first show, aarealskei! make sure you let us know how it goes!

i went to a middle eastern dance bazzar a while ago thinking i'd pick up a coin belt and maybe some other gear for a nice costume but was totally stunned by the prices! i'd like to be able to make my own costume and veils but i suck at sewing, so i guess i'll just keep dreaming.

Wow...I had no idea how many people were into belly dancing. It's a ton of fun and a great workout.

Kreeli: I'm working on making my own hip scarf for the dance show. I managed to make my daughter's hip scarf and I made both of our harem pants. My class hip scarf I bought off the internet. The prices were pretty reasonable, but the place is in Turkey. (I highly recommend paying the extra charge for fed-ex shipping) The name of the place is the Turkish Emporium. I've bought belly dance stuff from other vendors, but I think TE has some of the best prices and the quality is good.

If anyone is interested, you guys can check out the dance school that I attend. (my hubby handles the website for them) The videos are really good and it gives you all a chance to see what my teachers are like. The site is www.danmardancestudio.com

I wanna learn bellydance too! LOL There's a place nearish me that does a fusion style bellydance, that incorporates Flamenco, Latin and Indian dance as well as bellydance... since I want to learn latin dance as well it seems like a good start...
