It's a touching story, but it makes me sad to think the fishers earned money for their horrible work anyway

Yeah that's the saddest part... the fishers will just see the business as profitable and catch more.

On the other hand this news article is getting a lot of buzz and might get some people to reconsider killing animals, so there's balance.

That's a lovely story.

I guess the owners of what used to be my favorite Chinese restaurant aren't Buddhists. After running their restaurant successfully for a number of years, they added a live lobster tank so customers could choose their dinner.

I like that article a lot. As a little kid, I would follow my mom through the grocery store and I would look at the lobster tank. It was always so depressing seeing them in there and knowing what was going to happen to them. These guys did good.

You know what's worse? I'm vegan, my husband 'eats' vegan at home and is entirely supportive, but when we were out at a local restaurant, there was a tank and the hostess was telling someone how 'they can choose the lobster they like, the chef will kill it for them and then cook it' and so on. After we went out of earshot, my husband says to me, "I couldn't do it, I'd just tell them to choose a lobster for me cause I couldn't do it myself'. I think he thought that would absolve him of the guilt or something.

They just installed a lobster tank at the local grocery store. DH says they are packed so tightly they can barely move.

Thats a great story however, I am afraid if they will get caught again , I wonder did they put them in a safe haven in the ocean? I am glad that seafood is also banned in our home also my husband is allergic to the smell of cooking seafood or even seafood.

I love this story!

This reminds me of that awful show "Deadliest Catch". I hate that show so much, but my family watch it. It's so sad, I love when the people on board get pinched, or when some of the equipment swings and hits them, though. I know one of the main characters recently died on the show, too, and I couldn't believe how many people were all sad but they watch a show about thousands of crabs being murdered. I know that sounds awful that it makes me happy, but I like to see Karma come back and bite them.

Buddhists mean well but some here in British Columbia have been criticised for releasing non-native species into the wild.

They badly need to inform themselves-I understand they mean well but releasing invasive species is just plain stupid.

Buddhists are not necessarily vegetarians AFAIK.
