Just wanted to introduce myself. After dieting over the last 5 weeks (and losing around 15 lbs!), I decided last Thursday to begin the transition to become a vegetarian. I know it seems "cold turkey," However, I decided while I was challenging my body, I would challenge my mind as well. I have searched the internet and read everything I could on the subject of transitioning to vegetarianism, and decided that it was more than a challenge to myself, but a lifestyle change. After just 6 days, I have stuck with my new diet and am looking forward to the future (began talking to my friends about my transition today).

Please keep reading... I would like opinions below...

Being familiar with other internet forums, I ask and hope that there is no one here intending to "flame" my decisions or opinions. I imagine that this board is filled with reasonable people who are excited for my decision to change, no matter the reason I decided to do so.

Now for the opinions... I am a 22 year old male who is in college (living alone - family condo, no rent, can't complain...). However, I have found it hard to cook and shop for just myself. I would love opinions (haven't even searched the board, I'm sure there is help on here) on recipes, ideas, opinions, etc that can keep me on track. As I'm sure it once was for you, this won't be a particularly easy transition for me (although after 6 days I've had no issues - idk when the cravings will come).

Thanks for your time, and I look forward to any responses!

welcome
currently i cook only for myself and i only cook 2-3 times a week and then eat leftovers. i also freeze stuff if a recipe is more food than 3 meals and eat it later that month or the next.
i cook almost exclusively from the fat free vegan blog which has tasty and easy recipes but they're all vegan.

Welcome to VB, John! No worries, you've come to the right place - VB is a forum for vegetarians (of all flavours: lacto, ovo, lacto, lacto-ovo, strict vegetarians, vegans etc.), so as long as your goal is to be one of us you will find nothing but support here

Hi John! You'll find a lot of recipes and tips in the forum.

For easy, single person recipes I recommend Vegan Stoner (it's not what you think). http://theveganstoner.blogspot.com/

We have a few young bachelor types on here, and their technique seems to be to purchase frozen fruit and veggies.

I know that Peta has a cookbook for college students, so you might want to check that out. http://www.amazon.com/PETAs-Vegan-Co...3899750&sr=8-1

Hi, and welcome!

Don't worry, nobody here is gonna hate on you for becoming a vegetarian; this board is only for vegetarians.

As for shopping and cooking for one, I tend to make large portions of things and freeze bits so I can eat them later. Saves on cost. Here's a few links that may help you out:
Recipe Section
Food Porn - A great thread to see what other people are cooking
List of food blogs

And there's also plenty of other similar threads floating around
I hope you find what you need here!
