I really only have one question for now:

Do you actually play bagpipes? I recall your mentioning it a long time ago in a thread here.

Okay... where to start...

Question limit: I haven't been spending so much time online as I'd like, so maybe one or two. I might not have an answer to some questions, but I don't mean to blow anyone off. If I don't have an answer to one question, please feel free to ask another.

Gender: male

Age: 54

Birthday: July 23

Location: Upstate NY

Dietary Path/Reason Why:: Lacto-ovo-vegetarian, but have been moving toward vegan for the last 10-15 years; much closer to vegan over the past 5-10 years.

Favorite food(s):Yes! (My tastes are pretty wide... just about anything, except maybe cilantro- and I can tolerate that. Cilantrophiles, there's that much more for you to eat!)

Brief Intro: Maybe I'll get back to this question later...

Picture: Maybe one of these days....

Website (your own or one of your favorites) This is my favorite. I set up a message board once, but it sort of petered out.

QUOTE] I read quite a few, but can think of two unusual ones:

One was "Peter's Moose", about a boy who adopts a moose calf. Another was "The Cloud Catcher" (at least I think that was the name)- it was about two youngsters who had a sort of huge funnel-shaped sail at the top of a hill, and when the wind blew clouds into the funnel, they bottled them up first in jugs, then in a tank. They used them for different things.

I've sewn buttons onto shirts a couple of times, and I drink tap water.

Hmmm... you mean to be?... Ninja. But it's not gonna happen. I tried judo and aikido years ago, and didn't really get anywhere.

Hippos are supposed to be kind of bad-tempered, and I've adopted 3 lovable rabbits... so I guess I prefer rabbits.

Tea, definitely... regular, catnip, chamomile... but I don't drink it much.

Canvas backpack. I also use bread wrappers for produce.

I'm not really much of a moviegoer... if I have favorites, it's not by a large margin. Generally, I like science-fiction.

Apart from the ethical aspect of veg*nism... I'm not sure what I like most about it. I'd still enjoy meat if I would permit myself to eat it, but I'm not a picky eater so I still enjoy eating just as much. I suppose it would be a tossup between the health and environmental benefits of being veg. But of course, it's still possible to eat unhealthily as a vegetarian.

I usually wear heavy work shoes outside. Indoors, it varies.

I've been to Ireland and England, with a one-day stop in Amsterdam. I liked it and would enjoy going back, but if I go back, I'd probably spend more time in fewer places. Seeing places like Stonehenge and Newgrange were amazing!

Florida and Maine are interesting too. I like the Adirondack Mountains... and New York City, although so far I've mostly seen Manhattan.

India would be interesting to visit... I'd like to see the California redwoods... Alaska... Savanna, Georgia...

I have 2 bicycles, but haven't ridden in some time. I'd think that off-road vehicles aren't good for the landscape.

I don't think I have answers to the other questions... I might try them later.

Probably the animals I've known in real-life. There was a very sweet-tempered cat I found in a park next to my house in 1963... but there were also two goldfish I had before then, and a family of squirrels in my neighborhood about the same time. I don't know if I would have come to appreciate them so much if I hadn't known any directly.

I can't play bagpipes. I've played some acoustic guitar and piano, though... I really should get back into practice.

I went to summer (day) camp once. It was okay, but I hope my parents didn't spend too much money on it. As I recall, it was their idea.

I can't really answer the other questions... except... she wasn't really a "gift", but my parents let me keep that kitten I found whom I mentioned above.

Ok, spill it, Tom! How did you get to be a Cowsills fan? Who was your favorite Cowsill, and what was your favorite Cowsills song?

When I was in 5th or 6th grade, my girlfriend and I had crushes on John (her) and Barry (me), and we pretended they were our boyfriends. We would drool over 16 and Tiger Beat magazines with their photos in them. One day we dressed up in short skirts, high heels, and lots of my friend's mom's jewelry, and we imagined we were on dates with John and Barry. We ended up outside go-go dancing by the side of the road (we lived in a rural area, so not that many cars passed by). Was that too much information?

Anyway, other than my friend, I don't know of anyone else besides you who remembers the Cowsills, so a big to ya!

Hmm... I was kind of sleepy and rushed when I answered some of the previous questions....

Sevenseas, I think that besides the ethical aspect of veg*ism, I like exploring different ways to do things and new things to eat- The Quest!

People have often asked me what I eat when they learn I'm veg- but the truth is, I haven't really given up that much: beef; pork; chicken and turkey (which were good, but tasted much the same)... and quite a few species of water animals that taste pretty similar. (My family wasn't that big on lamb or mutton, although we sometimes had lamb chops). When I gradually started edging toward veganism about, oh, 15 years ago, of course I dropped eggs and milk- but I mostly have missed foods that happened to include egg or milk, and vegan substitutes can be had.

Sarahjayn1980, I still can't think of any movies that were a waste of money... so many of them seem like I wouldn;t be interested in them so I don't even bother going in the first place!

Well... I don't think I actually had a crush on Susan... but she was cute!

You're going to like my answer: I thought Barry's bass lines often really made the songs the Cowsills did. "Indian Lake" was the first single they had out that I heard, and I loved it.

Funny... I think "The Rain And The Park" was their first big hit, and they had other top-40 releases before that, but I don't remember hearing them until I got a couple of their albums.

The most recent rock concert I attended SHOULD have been Def Leppard and Journey last weekend... some of my co-workers told me it was a lot of fun. Def Leppard did mostly a lot of their old hits, and Journey's lead singer was pretty good, even though it wasn't Steve Perry. I ought to have gone. But evidently they tour together rather frequently, so I might have another chance.

The Turtles gave an outdoor concert this past summer, and I saw them. I think most of the rock concerts I've been to- Robert Plant, Yes, Steely Dan, The Doobie Brothers, The Beach Boys- have been after they hit their peak of popularity, but I enjoyed them anyway. I saw The First Edition back in 1970, before Kenny Rogers' solo career took off, and Diamond Rio (a big country act) when they were up-and-coming... but somehow I liked most of the performers who would have been considered "past their prime" just as much. (Maybe they were lip-synching to tapes...)

I can't think of a favorite thread, but I do have favorite forums: Animal rights/welfare, Companion Animals, the Vegetarian and Vegan forums... but I think that thread started by the alien Tharg was fun.

My dream pizza: a tasty red sauce, spinach, broccoli, black olives, green or jalapeno peppers... and just enough cheese to keep everything from sliding off... I'll have to try making my own with a non-dairy cheese. Or maybe take Mouse's suggestion and use vegan pesto instead of sauce and cheese.
