I'm mostly lacto-ovo vegetarian but I do sometimes eat farm fish and homegrown chicken. I don't eat dead cows, pigs, lambs, or any ocean fish. I don't eat much processed foods like frozen dinner type things. I avoid meat because I don't like factory farming which I think is cruel, I avoid ocean fish because much ocean life is endangered and fish are cruelly caught. I avoid most processed foods because they take so many resources and energy to produce and distribute.

Favorite food(s): vegetarian Indian food, potato chips, tortilla chips, parmesan cheese, avocadoes

Brief Intro: I love gardening and have several gardens around my house, but I don't have a green thumb so they don't look very great right now during our bad drought (which might be breaking - yay!). I'm very interested in sustainable living and am trying to learn how to grow my own food. I work at home with my husband in our business making artificial animals for stunt scenes in movies, animal costumes, and puppets. We're super busy now making dead rats, black bear and polar bear costumes, and soon a baby elephant costume and gorilla costumes, for various clients. I also sculpt and paint, though I've been too busy with other projects lately to do much of anything in those areas except for job related stuff. I raise chickens and recently acquired four Jacob wool sheep. I love books but tend to reread the same old ones over and over. My favorite author is Mervyn Peake, with HP Lovecraft a close second. I'm kind of an emotional doofus and fly off the handle easily.

Website (your own or one of your favorites)my website -http://www.geocities.com/alfredprunesquallor/

I was born in California, moved to TX as a youngster and went to university there, then moved back to CA to work in showbiz, moving back to TX a few years ago with my husband because it was getting too expensive to live in Los Angeles.

I don't have hat or boots, and don't like cowboy stuff - ew!

My favorite plant is anything that will survive for me. I love roses but kill them. I guess - lettuce would be my favorite because it grows well for me usually, and I like to eat salad.

Hi, thanks for asking.

I got into my profession via "monster-making" working in special makeup effects shops. While I was in university getting a fine art degree I corresponded with a few makeup artists and monster-makers, because I thought I wanted to be a special makeup effects artist like Dick Smith or Rick Baker. After university I moved to Los Angeles and after a moderately long period of impoverished unemployment I got a job in an effects shop. I worked in shops for several years but eventually I became ill with what I thought was poisoning from all the chemicals we used but what I now think was depression from stress on top of an underlying depressive illness. So I started a home business making fake animals, mostly working for shops that I'd been an employee for earlier. During one of my stints as an employee at Rick Baker's shop I met my soon-to-be husband. He eventually joined me working at the home business and we moved to Texas. I never did much of what I had started out wanting to be - a makeup artist - because I wasn't a good enough "people person" which you have to be to get into that field. I've always been sort of a hermit with severe social anxiety.

I travelled to Italy on scholarship during university and stayed there for a month on an art program, living outside Florence in an old monastery and visiting Venice, Siena, Rome, and some other cities. I would love to go back there but probably won't because of finances.

My favorite thing about where I live is the variety of the land, animals, plants, and weather. The Texas Hill Country is at the conjunction of several climate and biotic zones and under the central migratory flyway, so we have all kinds of critters from east and west, north and south. Weather here is extremely erratic, occilating between drought and flood. It's a challenging and often discouraging place to try to garden.

My least favorite thing about this area is the politics, which are very conservative leaning toward right-wing, though it is changing slowly with a more liberal influence leaking out of Austin. I'm very left-wing myself so feel out of place politically. I was one of four people in my district who voted Democrat in the last election...

As far as moving to another place, I often wish we'd moved somewhere the weather is a little less extreme, but, it doesn't look like we'll want to move, we're pretty well settled here.

My favorite way to relieve stress after a hard day is to drink a glass of wine and look at gardening books.

I name our pet animals. We have four Jacob sheep, named Yog Sothoth (Yoggie), Cthulhu (Tulie), Mirriam, and Harold; a Black Australorp rooster named Fluff; a Buff Laced Polish rooster named Frank; Frank's son named Mulligan; a white hen named Peanut; her son, Son of Peanut; my favorite hen a Dark Cornish named Kiwi; a Light Brahma hen named Ludi; another Dark Cornish hen named Scrawny and another named Baldy. We also have unnamed pet Buff Silkies - two hens and a rooster (we have way, way, way too many roosters). Also, a Border Collie mix named Izzie.

Do you wear jewelry? If so, what does your favorite piece of jewelry look like? Almost any time I go into town or otherwise "dress up" I wear a necklace with a gold metal pendant of a sun/moon disc. It's sort of my good-luck or safety charm.

What's your favorite kind of music? I like Celtic-flavored soft rock/pop such as Loreena Mckinnet, also Kate Bush, and XTC. But I like many others as well, pretty eclectic taste I guess.

Do you ever play recorded music for your animals? No, they get to enjoy their own music or the quietude of the country.

Are there any famous persons you would like to invite over for dinner? What would you make them? I'd like to have dinner with Masanobu Fukuoka, the sage of Natural Farming. I'm not much of a chef, so I'd probably make something simple such as sauteed vegetables and pasta.

What's your favorite three-hanky movie? I avoid sad movies generally so I don't have a favorite....

What movie genre(s) do you like the best? Spoooky thrillers and black and white horror from ye olde days, like "The Old Dark House," "Bride of Frankenstein," "I Walked with a Zombie," "The Haunting" and many others along those lines.

I can't remember where I first found information about the cruelty of factory farming, I think I gradually picked it up from some of my alternative farming books, and various articles and websites on the internet, as well as a lot of info from VeggieBoards.

I'm hoping I can gradually transition from my current job to earning some kind of income from selling vegetables and fruit and maybe a few eggs. Realistically I don't know that I can make a decent income selling vegetables and fruit, but I would like to try it anyway, as a more sustainable/Earth-friendly business than the fake animal biz.

The qualities I love most about my husband are his incredible patience, empathy, and sense of humor.

My favorite vegetable changes frequently, right now it is the avocado (or is that a fruit?)

I rarely wear makeup, at most a little lipstick but I hardly do that anymore because of concern about the ingredients.

HP Lovecraft... now THERE'S someone who can create a really creepy atmosphere with a story. Sometimes when I'm in a strange mood I'll get horror out of the library to read.

Have you read any Clive Barker? (Although his stuff is quite a bit more violent than Lovecraft's...)

I was a painfully shy and nerdlike teenager. My parents wouldn't have been able to handle overtly troubled children, so it's a good thing we waited until adulthood to express our mental illnesses, which our folks still can't handle (avoiding going into a rant here.... )....

Though shy, I was in the drama club, because although I could barely speak to another person individually, I was able to get up in front of the whole school and act no problem.

I had a slight crush on an eighth grader when I was in sixth grade, but I can't remember his name...David something, I think....

I've lost touch with all my former classmates from the past, last saw them at our 20th reunion.

I've read a little Clive Barker but he's too graphically gory for my tastes, I prefer the spoooky.

What do you consider your greatest strengths and weaknesses?

What's something you've always really, really, really wanted to do? Do you think you'll ever do it?

Since you're a member of the "Over-40 Club" (as am I) are there any words of wisdom, based on your life experiences, you'd like to share with the younger folks here? (I'm interested, too...I need all the help I can get. )

My greatest strength is my ability to keep plodding along getting things done even when I feel like crap; my greatest weakness is my self-hatred.

I've always really really really wanted to live a self-sufficient and sustainable life, and I don't know if I'll ever manage to do it, but I'll keep trying.

Words of wisdom - don't hate yourself or anyone else. Love really is the answer to our problems.

I don't know much about the psychology or physiology of sex offenses, so my opinion about sex offenders would be baseless. Therefore, I don't especially have an opinion about them. I think they should be treated with compassion, but what that would entail for them or the community, I leave to people who are better informed than I am on the subject.

I really enjoyed growing endless amounts of lettuce, when it was doing well, so yeah, lettuce, I guess. I like salad.

I'm wearing shorts and a polo shirt.

I like lettuce, tomatoes, avocado, sprouts, croutons, sunflower seeds, pretty much anything on a salad.

Not a prune fan.

Hmm, I'll have to think about the water-related story...
