Dietary Path/Reason Why:: I've pretty much been everything from l/o to just lacto and just ovo and vegan and pesco (don't hit me!), and it started because I was overweight & depressed.

Favorite food(s): pizza, fer sher. And cheetos.

Brief Intro: I grew up in a crappy suburb of portland, moved out at 17 to go to college, graduated with a BA in International Relations from UC Davis, got a job, moved back to portland because my dad got sick, got married, worked a lot, got depressed again, moved to Australia, got my MBA from Portland State, left my husband and Australia, hooked up with remilard, got a job as a manager, and here I am.

What does your favorite piece of jewelry look like? Hmm. Well, I used to have a glass pendant with blue swirlies in it, but I took it off one night and it dropped into the bathroom sink & shattered. I don't really spend much time on my jewelry anymore, but my favorite piercing is my rook.

Kickin' around at home: Shoes, socks, sandals, slippers or barefoot? In the summertime, barefoot absolutely! Winter time -- sockies!! (though I'm barefoot now, hehe)

You and Remilard in the park on a lovely summer day: What would you pack in the picnic basket? Other than beer?

hmm... probably Robusto and aged Gouda cheeses, water crackers, some grapes, maybe chips & salsa... and of course some Chimay or Westmalle for Remi and a Rogue Juniper Pale Ale for me.

What kind of movies do you like best? Do you have a favorite 3-hanky weeper? I like suspense dramas, the kind which make you think and have some clues or puzzles in them. I think that Silence of the Lambs is the quintessential suspense drama. I'm hooked on all the crime dramas - I think there should be more on TV!

Who has to be playing on the radio for you to get up and boogie when you're too tired otherwise? drunk or sober?

Sober, maybe a good Decemberists pirate song... Drunk, pretty much anything. I love to dance, but I'm pretty shy so I tend not to dance unless my inhibitions have been *cough* umm... lessened.

Which is better: Beer or wine? It depends! I'd rather drink cheap wine than cheap beer (I'd drink 2-buck chuck over MGD any day, though I'd probably choose water if I had a choice), but I'd absolutely choose a quality beer over a quality wine.

Mango sorbet or banana-strawberry smoothie? Man, you could make me a green bean smoothie and I'd drink it before I drank anything with bananas in it

What do you do when you see a spider? Look for a container I can put it in.

What was your favourite book from your childhood? Oooh, good question! I loved all the Judy Blume books but "Are you There God" was probably my favorite. I also really enjoyed the "Choose your own adventure" series.

Can you sew? I used to be able to, but I'd be at a loss to try to do it now. Well, not really. I can read a pattern, which is good I suppose. I'm taking up knitting right now and I was just thinking last night that sewing was a lot more immediately gratifying!

My first response is "Manatee!!" because they're so effing cute. But I suppose if it were a real decision, I'd do a bunch of research into which species' extinction would have the greatest impact on other species then make a choice.

What advice do you have for people younger than you in your career field?

You know, I'm not even sure what my "career field" even is.

Management, I guess? You're responsible for your own success; promote others' ideas as well as your own. Develop relationships in the company and visit with many people often. You'll develop a positive reputation quickly that way. Stay out of company gossip. Suggest ideas to your boss and others ways to improve processes. None of them may get implemented, but you'll develop a reputation for looking out for the company's best interests.

What did you like best about Australia?

Everything. heh. well, I spent the majority of my time in Sydney, though I did get to go to other states and cities. I loved the transit system - I never had a car while I was there. I loved all the suburbs and how they had their own traits. I marveled at all the independent business and how successful they were in their locations. I loved how talkative and friendly everyone was. People would just strike up a conversation and chat, and I learned to do the same. It really encouraged me to be a little less shy.

heh ... I'd miss the physical contact, but I don't think I could stand to remain silent the whole day. I love talking to remi

What are the best veg or veg friendly places to eat in Portland?

Depends on what you mean by "best"... if you mean quality food, you can pretty much exclude nearly every vegetarian restaurant in the city. We have plenty, but the food is such crap! It's amazing, and so extremely disappointing. There's a Thai restaurant in SE that has good veg food, and it's the only 100% veg place I go to anymore in this city.

There are a lot of veg-friendly places, though, and I find them to be phenomenally better than the pure-veg places. Almost any Thai or Indian place will make a dish vegan. There are some places that do vegan pizza or mexican food. Laughing Planet probably does the best veg burritos. Hot Lips does a great vegan pizza and Black Sheep is a drool-worthy vegan bakery. Vita Cafe has some good vegan food, but the service sucks ass.

But probably my favorite veg-friendly place in town is Bombay Cricket Club, which does very good Indian food. mmmm.....

What kind of child were you? Happy, sad, serious, carefree?

Happy, but *extremely* shy and self-conscious. I'm still shy, but being in sales for 5 years certainly helped bring me out of my shell

How many pets have you ever had at one time?

The most? I've had 2 cats, a dog, and a bunch of fish. We mostly just had 2 cats & a dog when I was growing up though. Now I just have two cats. I might get a dog when I get a house, but it'd have to have a big yard because I'm too lazy to take a dog for walks.

Can you swim?

Yes. Funny story, my dad tried to get me to learn to swim when I was a kid by throwing me into the public pool, but it freaked me out every time and I'd scream and cry. (I was knocked into a pool when I was 3 and remember watching the water go over my head - I was scared of water for a long time after that.) When I was about 13, my dad's employer had a company picnic at this huge park which had a pool. I went into the pool and started dog paddling around, then thought to myself "wait...I don't know how to swim"... I was so excited that I swam around for about an hour before my parents came looking for me.

What would your dream house be like and where would you live if you could live anywhere in the world?

Ooooooh... would I still have to pay property taxes & mortgage? If not, let's see... It'd be about 1500 square feet with a gourmet kitchen and a workshop for homebrewing. Two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room, and ... that's about it. Maybe a game room off the homebrew shop. A small yard, maybe 15'x15' (there goes the dog, hehe), with enough room for some veggie plants and a BBQ grill.

And it would be in San Francisco.

It depends. Am I leaning on a wall or sitting down? And at what pace? I can drink about 6-7 beers in 12 hours and be pretty happy but nowhere near drunk. But if I drink 3 pints in 2 hours, I'm drunk and slurring.

Umm... when I graduated with my MBA. I knew I'd made one of the best decisions for myself ever.

When did you feel most wrong?

When I was completely broke and dropped out of college & accidentally got pregnant a few months later. My dad was so disappointed in me and, worse, I was completely disappointed with myself. That was a pretty crappy point in my life.

cookies, by far. BY FARRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!! unless it's flourless chocolate cake, then cake wins.

what do you put in lasagne?

noodles, sauce, lots of spinach, sauteed veggies... if I'm feeling fancy I use real ricotta. Otherwise I use small curd cottage cheese. And mozzarella.

Funny... lasagne is on the menu for this week, but we're making a vegan one (Bryanna's red sauce version).

what is your favorite raw vegetable?

sugar snap peas in the shell!

It also seems to be one of my more common expressions IRL. heh.

are you a morning person or night person?

night person - always have been! I love early mornings (especially in the autumn as the sun is rising and the dew is rising off the ground), but I hate getting out of my warm, snuggy bed all cozy and comfy...mmmmm... zzzzz
