Peanuts are actually legumes, so they get soft and kinda beany in texture. They are salty and delicious.

I wonder if it was a bad batch. Maybe I should try and make my own?
If you don't like your homemade boiled peanuts, you can always throw them in soup or something that makes it taste like everything else.

They can get mushy after a while, especially when they are cooked until the barrel on the side of the road is empty.

You can get raw, unshelled peanuts at most Asian markets this time of year. Try boiling them (low) for 3-4 hours in salted water (1/4 to 1/2 cup of salt per quart of water). They keep for weeks in the fridge and freeze very well.

I have not had boiled peanuts in well over a decade. We don't have them up here in New England but when my parents used to take us on road trips down south to see relatives in Myrtle Beach or Florida, there were always stands along the road and we would stop to pick some up.

I would really like to try them, but sadly none exist here, and no Asian markets either.

I wonder if I could track down raw peanuts anywhere around here... Or I guess I could order some online? Or cans of peanuts, but maybe those don't compare?
