From my understanding they are really meant for people who have been exposed to unusually high doses of toxins, as happened to the people who were exposed to the towers debris in NY.

hmm ok thanks guys.. I had heard some good things, and also some bad things about detoxs and am still not sure what to think. I just thought it might help me feel more cleansed I suppose.

People do cleanses all the time, whether it's juicing, or raw foods, or fasting. Some do parasite cleanses (I started one yesterday,) or colon or liver or master cleanse, or whatever. There are all sorts of detoxes, not just the betty ford kind.

From what I've read, they make you feel VERY sick while they are going on, because all the nasty stuff is coming out of your fat, through your renal system, and out your excretory tract.

Oh definitely! There's certainly evidence that if left in our bodies, many toxins can cause cancer and other illnesses.

But - I think our bodies have the capacity to cleanse themselves if we stick to a vegan diet and avoid exposure to toxic materials, without going through a formal detox.

I'm not a vegan, but I believe the vegan diet is the best for keeping the body clean of toxic materials, unless you're able to get your eggs and dairy products from animals raised on organic grass and grains. Animal fats are accumulators of heavy metals and other toxins.

I'd have to agree with whomever said that cleanses are unnecessary-- your body gets rid of icky stuff all on its own.

I do understand the appeal, but I don't think they actually do a heck of a lot more than, say, a vegan non-junk-food lifestyle would do for you.

I'm on day 7 of the master cleanse. to be honest i'm wondering why i started it in the first place!


Seemings I'm a pretty healthy girl to start off with...I suppose I thought this would get rid of whatever toxins were lurking, and with the holidays just passed and all the bad food that goes along with them...I thought this would be a good way to kickstart the new year. However, with three more days to go I'm wondering if I should break it early.

In my opinion, detoxes are good for extremely toxic people...or for people trying to become veggie, vegan, or raw--or any major change in diet or lifestyle. But, for someone like me...I'm beginning to agree with a couple of the others...it's unnecessary! But, we'll see what I have to say about it when it's finally over. Maybe something miraculous will happen!


If you do decide to do one I would just do a lot of research on it first!!
