From all I know, he was a very decent human being. He thought of others, gave much to charity, and lived a responsible life. My hat is off to him.

I remember several years ago watching an interview with Bob Hope...he owned some property and was going to sell it to real-estate developers for a huge sum (they were going to turn it into a golf coarse)

An environmental group was working diligently to stop it and offered him a large sum of money themselves (but much less than the developers) they were asking him to take the lesser amount for the environments sake (I don't remember why this particular land was so vital to them, but it was)

In the interview, he seemed like an incensed, bitter, and shortsighted old man.

after a hundred years i don't really consider it a loss, i'm sure he was looking forward to resting after such a long life.

i thought it was a bit silly that they made such a big deal for his birthday but i guess i don't now that he died such a short time afterwards, it was a pretty good farewell party

Maybe the tree-hugging hippies should raise more cash next time.

I was lucky enough to see Mr. Hope at a Xmas USO show in Vietnam....it was wonderful to get a taste of home and to be reminded that people care. I cant begin to describe what a few hours of entertainment can do for a tired spirit. I will never forget him for that, and will miss him along with the thousands upon thousands of service people he brought joy to far away from home.

Some choose to focus on the bad brush stroke in the corner of the painting,I choose to view the entire work and admire its beauty.
