I laughed when I saw weird Australian laws... it brought up our two dog limit... I'm sure most suburban-living Aussies don't find it weird but I find it a pain in the arse... not weird though... I think it should depend on land size.

Mouse, most states, but not all, I think NSW is okay. Most places don't have a limit on cats except if they are a nuisance to neighbours... or if you can't care for them properly. The shire I want to move to has a two cat limit because it is close to national parks. It also isn't unreasonable about dogs, there it does depend on property size.

There are tons of dumb laws at http://www.dumblaws.com

They're fun to read.

Does the cat limit apply even if they're indoor only cats? (I'm just being curious--I don't intend to move to Australia, although Australia and New Zealand are close to the top of my list of places I'd like to visit.)

Yep... but what they don't know can't hurt them. LOL I'm sure that they have kennel licences though, so that would be a way around it, but more expensive.

I don't think I would have more than two cats... dogs absolutely but cats are waaaaay harder to train than dogs...

I wouldn't even use the "t----" word when a cat is within earshot.

I am pretty sure this is unconstitutional after Lawrence v Texas

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lawrence_v_Texas

This sure sounds problematic from a free-press angle.

When I was in Wisconsin last year, I found out that it's illegal for Wisconsin restaurants to serve margarine -- unless a customer specifically requests it. Margarine is also not allowed to be served in prisons or in public schools. I read a newspaper article that showed that this is still enforced -- a restaurant was fined and they had to get butter by the next day.

Wisconsin was also the last state of the US to lift the ban on selling colored margarine (it used to be illegal to sell margarine colored yellow -- it came with little packets of yellow food coloring and you had to mix it in yourself, or eat it white.)

borealis, why? What do they have against margarine?

Im guessing it pisses off the dairy industry. They push a lot of weight there.
