Birth Control Pills

10170 Views 74 Replies 18 Participants Last post by  mistmusic&tea
One of my doctors wants to put me on birth control to help with my acne (oh the wonders of being 14), and I was just wondering what sort of side effects people here have experienced. I've heard all sorts of things- expanding breasts, weight gain, terrible periods, much easier periods, nausea, mood swings, ect.

I agree. And considering the situation, I hope the pill works. Plus, bloodysunset, once you do get old enough to want to be on the pill for *ahem* other reasons, you won't have to hide it from your parents (assuming that you wouldn't want to share this info, but I would advise it is good for at least one parent to know if you are sexually active. Not always possible though
)

Well that's assuming I'm still a virgin.

Although, I mostly date girls, so it's not an issue. My girlfriend's reply to this was "That's great, now I won't have to worry about getting you pregnant." Yep, that's right dear.
All this talk about birth control and being sexually active is making me hot.

Don't ever take birth control pills!! Those mess up your hormones and cause ovarian cancer. If you are taking them : stop now. If you have acne then you need to change your diet, being a vegetarian doesn't mean you're healthy.

This is advice that is very much factual. You guys shouldn't listen to doctors because all they want is money, they don't know anything about health. They tell people that milk is healthy for you when we all know that it's poison for the human body. they say a lot more too.

Go alternative.
Several of the women in past generations have died from endometrial cancer. I've had no problems with the pill, and it has been proven to prevent this type of cancer. Whatever you do, read up your options and do what you think is best. Going "alternative" can't fix everything.
going alternative can fix everything. We come from the earth so why not use things from the earth to heal us instead of putting harmful man-made chemicals into our bodies. It's obvious that you don't read books on health because if you did then you would know that birth control pills are harmful to a woman's body. But do what you want, I'm just trying to inform you on this.
Scaring and cystic acne are not diet related. Perhaps you need to read more books.

Actually you're wrong. Acne is the result of a toxic liver, if you didn't know that then it's toooooooo obvious that you don't read............. at all. Type what you know.

This will not turn into a debate because I know what I know and you think you know what you know.

big difference
You're new, so I'll give you some time. But, your messages thus far have not been helpful at all.

Toxic liver? Please show me your medical evidence.

That's because it makes the female body think that it's pregnant, therefore resulting in big boobs. Physical apperance is totally different from what your body is really experiencing inside due to the use of these toxic pills.
quality1,

This is your third and final warning.

I don't want to be mean, but I'm consistently seeing non-supportive, off-topic posts from you in the areas that are meant to be helpful to others.

Please be more considerate of others, and abide by the forum rules.

Thank you.

I'm new? and? I still know what I know. Let me tell you what I know.

The skin is the largest organ on a human body. when toxins build up in your body they have to escape somewhere. If your liver is toxic then it is unable to filter these toxins out through urine. These toxins come out through the skin.... resulting in acne or other skin infections. A person's skin explains a persons health.

If you don't believe me then you should read some health books becase that information is in all of them.

or

You can always continue to take toxic pills that mess up your hormones and cause ovarian cancer.

I'm not trying to come off as rude but when I make a comment about my opinion, people get mad. This is a message board where everyone is supposed to give their opinion yet people are not respecting mines. You need to tell them the same thing.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion, and we encourage the sharing of all opinions on this board, even if we disagree with them.

All I'm asking is that you please make an effort to present your opinions respectfully and considerately. It is often helpful to provide a link or some other documentation to back up your statements.

This thread is in the support forum, not the debate forum. The original poster is looking for feedback about the side-effects of this medication, not a debate on whether or not she should utilize this treatment. If you'd like to debate the merits of birth control pills, perhaps you'd like to start a topic in the Compost Heap.

Thanks, and please feel free to PM me if you'd like to discuss this further.

Let's get this thread back on topic. ^^
About the liver and acne thing...

How do you explain heredity acne?

What about females whose hormones cause acne breakouts?

What about 2 people who live in the same house, eating the same foods, and 1 gets scarring acne and the other has perfect skin?

The original poster comes from a family with acne and wants to avoid the scarring effects on her face. There is nothing wrong with that. For many females, the acne is caused by chemical imbalances, which the birth control pills would help control.

To be completely back on topic, if you're parents approve, try ProActiv. My cousins, who all scar, swear by it. I don't scar, so I can't justify the $100 CDN cost per month to have it shipped here. I use the pill to help control mine, which is why i take Aleese.
To an extent, I agree with Quality1- It seems you can only post your true thoughts if they don't go against the majority. Otherwise, you'll get slammed right and left. Those that agree with you are then to chicken to speak up. I'm serious- I'm not being a jerk or knocking VB, but that is what I have experienced since being here.

Haven't researched acne much, but I did do a bit of research on staph and other skin infections (my boss experienced a bunch- it was incredible. By the time she got to the hospital, she also had ecoli). She is one who had the gastric bypass surgery and he doctors felt it was related. She was literally draining out of her nails and everywhere else. GAWD.

Anyhow, toxicity makes sense. What about acidity? Could that be related, as well?

Haven't bc pills also been directly connected to breast cancer?

I don't take any medicine. Just don't trust it. And Quality- I agree- our modern doctors are just drug pushers. Sad, but true.
I went through a serious acne stage. Around the same time, I gained a bunch of weight (puberty)- I wasn't eating well.

Anyhow, my brother had horrible acne, also. Once I hit 15, it just seemed to completely go away. His did, too (much later, though)- and he has scarring.

Not sure about the diet, though. Mine went away before I went to a healthy diet. His went away and he has never changed his diet.

Surely there are numerous causes/contributing factors. Hmmm... this has compelled me to do some research- I'll share anything interesting I might find.
yeah my bro had bad acne when he was younger but it just went away as he got older. but if you find something that helps control it and doesn't have bad side effects i say go for it. bad acne can really do harm to a person's self esteem, especially in school.

as to the opinion thing, it's fine to post your opinion even when it's contrary to other people's opinions, but when you say them in a way that implies everyone else is poorly informed and your opinion is the only correct one, that's just gonna pick a fight. say what you think but consider how your wording will come across to other people. suggesting others need to read more because they disagree with you isn't a good way to make friends

Yeah, one more off-topic post, 'cause I've been irritated by the majority of quality1's posts since joining two days ago. They have primarily been arrogant (especially for a 19 year-old) and unsupportive. For instance, I've seen the response "who cares?" in at least two threads. Wow. Thanks for your tremendous insight and support.

If you want to participate in a forum, particularly in the support section, you'd do well to check your attitude at the door. You'll find plenty of conflict in the debate threads, believe me.

And, aksjg, I think you're great. I mean it. You have some great posts, and I disagree with you sometimes, but I don't jump down your throat. I get annoyed when you and others you argue with become somewhat petty and reactionary in your interactions, but I think you're taking something and making it too personal. So people disagree with you. Big deal. You disagree with them. If you're in the minority, there's nothing anyone can do about that. Most people here have their minds made up about a lot of things, though I still see some open-mindedness. I would prefer certain other posters here were a bit "nicer." But, heck, people have requested that I be nicer, and I go out of my way to be nice and avoid saying things that are hurtful, so sometimes you have to just roll with it.

Let me just say that there's a world of difference between you disagreeing with a majority, and quality1 coming in here and spouting off the way he/she (I'm going to go female until told differently) has in the last two days. Actually, her first two posts in this thread were quite reasonable. One may object to her advice (I do), but that's a matter of opinion. Take it or leave it. I certainly think the response to that opinion was light-hearted (hence the wink), but I can see how it would be taken as an insult ("maybe you need to read more books"). It was the third post, the insulting response to Krista's that went way overboard. Let's chill it all out. There's no reason for anyone here to make personal judgments about other people here, at least publicly.

Um, so I'll turn things back over to the moderator and the ladies again.

*steps down from his over-sized soapbox*
