I was making falafel last night and my boyfriend told me he wasn't going to have any because it is gross. He had never even heard of it. That got me started on my biggest pet peeve: close-minded people. Can't stand it. It doesn't matter what issue is on the table, close-minded people just bug the hell out of me. So I'm just curious what some of your pet peeves are.

Edited to add: He tried the falafel, liked it, and told me I should make it again sometime.

My coworker is like this. Completely close-minded.

He's the epitome of an average, sheltered American white guy. Meat & potatoes, Bud Light, never traveled anywhere, scared of ethnic people & food, never had any culture in his life, hooked on TV, etc etc. I could go on and on. People like this drive me nuts.

Mine's spitting, people leaving rubbish etc And people who leave dogs mess. It's not that hard!!! If I can do it while hold three dogs (one of which loves pulling me over. Need to do some work on that ) then anyone can! Of course some people are so stupid that they can't put their hand in a bag and pick it up We should pity them. I wonder how on earth that were allowed to have dogs

Disregard for others and their personal space. (like when you're in a public space and you stand at the top of the escalator. Or at the grocery store when I'm waiting for the person in front of me to pay, and you push up against me as if that will make the person ahead of me pay any faster).

And chewing with your mouth open. One time in a restaurant, I could hear the guy at the table behind me smacking his food.

Pretense, trying to play a certain role to impress others (esp. without acknowledging that it's a role).

Making a stupid comment and, far from understanding its stupidity, thinking it's very clever.

When people say that small animals with red eyes ( albino rats, mice, ect) are gross and ugly. That really gets to me. I know not everyone can like or love animals, and that some people just dislike them..But still. I also hate it when people say that cats are dumb/evil/ugly/boring and that dogs are much better. I know that I cant change peoples opinions and preferences...but I love cats and dogs

Also, judgemental people, people who think they know everything when in fact they know nothing (about a particular subject)..and many more.

Speaking of OregonAmy's topic of loud eaters...

The people in my cube farm who eat loudly. Like psychotically loud. They SCRAAAAPPPPE their yogurt cups, crunch on things open-mouthed, slurp soup & coffee, rustle around in their chip bag, yap on the phone with their mouth full. Drives me bonkers.

People who put sugar in flavoured lattes/hot chocolate.

Why? Just...why?

Admittedly I work in a coffee bar so I see this more than most people, which is why it both irritates and confuses me so much.

Why?

And not just loud eaters, I can't stand the sound of chewing at all. I eat my meals at a different time from my family because I can't stand it, and if one of them sits down near me and eats something I have to get up and leave. Resturants aren't so bad, but still drive me mad. And I've got no idea why

There are less superficial things but heh.

Boom cars! I don't want to hear your music before I even see your car. In fact I don't want to hear your music at all. It dosen't impress or entertain me- in fact it just makes you look inconsiderate and completely obnoxious. Turn it down!

Also the people who hear I am vegetarian, and immediately launch into rude jokes, or start telling me why I shouldn't be vegetarian. I don't say a word when you mention craving a steak, so please return that courtesy and shut up about me being vegetarian.

Mine is when someone says a veg "can't" eat something. I can eat anything I want. What I may or may not choose to eat is my choice.

Pet Peeves:

- People who lie.

- People who are unnecessarily obnoxious.

- People on the road who don't pay attention to the big orange signs telling them their lane is ending and then cut everyone else off.

- People who use their cell phones during a movie. I've seen both people playing games [if you were going to play games the whole time then why the Hell did you pay $8 for a movie ticket?] and I've sat next to 2 youngsters talking on theirs [I could hear their mom screaming at them on the other end ... I'm almost certain they snuck into the movie].

There are others. But those are big ones.

This, too.

My ex used to rip off on tips and it drove me insane. I'd yell at him forever for it. It's just so unfair to do to the people who service you. Tips are their living money. Be nice about it. Good grief.

If you don't want to tip, go to fast food or eat at home.

Non-controversial threads in the Compost Heap. I find that disrespectful to our proud debating traditions here on VB

When I'm in a car with one other person, their cell phone rings, then they continue to talk on the cell phone for 15-20 minutes like I'm not even there. And I'm not talking an important phone call. It's mindless chatter.
