With Valentine's Day coming up, one's thoughts naturally turn to Love in the Cinema, particularly romantic comedies.

My personal favorites:

IQ, starring Meg Ryan, Tim Robbins, Stephen Fry and Walter Matthau. This movie posits the idea that Albert Einstein, played by Matthau, has a niece, played by Meg Ryan, who's a mathematician engaged to a stuffy British scientist, played by Stephen Fry. Into this mix along comes an auto mechanic, played by Tim Robbins, who falls for the niece, and, with the help of her Uncle Albert and his brainiac scientist friends, attempts to woo he away from her fiance.

While You Were Sleeping starring Sandra Bullock Bill Pullman and Peter Gallagher. Sandra plays a Chicago Transit Authority employee who falls for Peter Gallagher when he shows up to ride the train. She saves him from death when he's pushed onto the tracks and, in a bit only seen in Hollywood movies, is thought to be his fiancee by the nurse and Peter's entire family. So she goes along with the lie because she really does want to be married to him, which is made easier by the fact that he winds up in a coma. Then along comes Bill Pullman as Peter's brother, and she falls for HIM. Oh, don't you love those love triangles?

For a slightly different view, I just watched Coming to America on TV again, and naturally it's the great James Earl Jones who has the best line in the whole movie: "There's a fine line between love and nausea."

Well, those aren't romantic comedies. This isn't a joke thread, so I'm closing it.
