This thread is only for those who believe in something other than everything stops when a human or animal dies. If you believe in some kind of Heaven, purgatory, reincarnation, etc., I'm interested to find out if you think you will see your companion animals again. Many people look forward to being reunited with human loved ones.<br><br><br><br>
From a Christian perspective, my parents taught me animals simply end when they die, while people have souls that continue on to either Heaven or Hell. This seems to be a common belief among the Christians I know. However, this doesn't quite jive with the passages of our scriptures that talk about God's kingdom being a place where the lion can lay down with the lamb, etc. Either that's just a figure of speech, or there will be animals in Heaven. If they will be the animals we knew here on earth, or distinct creations, I can't say. And, whether I will see my pets again or not, all I can say is, "I sure hope so."<br><br><br><br>
How 'bout it? Have your views on this changed since becoming veg*n?

I'm not particularly sure of all of my beliefs, but I do believe there is some sort of afterlife. I believe animals' souls continue on into the afterlife. This view has not changed or been influence by my veganism.

i believe that we all (meaning all animals) will have an afterlife. why would humans be anymore important? we were all created, after all. why would only humans have an afterlife? i really do believe that i'll see Sadies again (my brother's rat, but he gave him to me when my dad wasn't looking, lol. i love my bro. ^^) just like i'll get to see my grandma and finally get to meet my grandfather.

I'm atheist, but I do think that, if anything, it's quite possible that souls are recycled in reincarnation, and familiar souls encounter each other again, lifetime after lifetime.<br><br><br><br>
I've never thought about <i>that</i> aspect of it, though. Maybe in the next lifetime, the cat will be the human, and the human will be the cat. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/smiley.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=":)">

I'm not a believer, but I've worried that if there is an afterlife, that all my pets will be jealous of each other. Not to mention if I am ever a widow who re-marries! Hopefully it would get worked out some how. I've heard some speculate that each indivudual's experience of the afterlife would be independent of each others, so all your animals could experience being with you without experiencing the others as well.

While I believe all animals have souls and will enter into the eternal realm of God one day, I also think that we wont have much interest in "hanging out" with them. We will be face to face with the Creator. I think we will all be too busy in eternal worship to sit an reminisce with our earthly companions.<br><br><br><br>
I don't think anyone can say for sure, as only God knows what heaven is, and I don't think our human minds can comprehend exactly the constructs of eternity. It's nice to think that we can reconnect with our passed away loved ones, but I think that we all will be busy in adoration at His glories in heaven.<br><br><br><br>
Perhaps it will be a new Eden, perhaps it will be purely spiritual. Whatever it is, I am awestruck to think of the infinite glories that await.<br><br><br><br>

If there is an afterlife my friends better be there, I'd be seriously pissed off if I was there without any animals. I mean, what sort of paradise could it really be with no animals there?<br><br><br><br>
I wonder though, would they be as interested in spending time with me and I with them. Ashley, for example would probably want to spend all her time with the calves she lost over the years, all I ever did was feed and pat her.

And here's another thought: if it's the heaven described by Christian denominations then I probably wouldn't get in anyway. I've been living in sin for years, just to start with, and I have no intention of repenting.

gas4, I wasn't asking if you think a Christian Heaven would accept you and/or your pets. I hope that was clear. Since we have varying beliefs here, I'm interested how people of a variety of backgrounds answer the question.

I believe all living beings have souls, and I think it is speciesist to say that humans have an afterlife but animals don't. Either we all do, or non of us do. I believe the former. My cats have come back to visit me after their deaths, its comforting to sense their presence and know that they are still around.

I believe I will even though I've not heard of a cat or dog coming to get the person ready to cross over (as opposed to people saying that their father/mother/?? came to get a relative just before they went) but I think that's because a dog would be too busy having fun and a cat wouldn't be bothered, even in heaven. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/grin.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=":D">

Not in What Dreams May Come. The first familiar being the main character sees after he arrives in Heaven is his dog, Katy.

<br><br><br><span style="color:#008000;">I was wondering when/if you'd bring that movie up here. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/smiley.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=":)"><br><br>
However, if you think back you'll recall he encounters Albert (played by Cuba Gooding, Jr.) before he actually gets to Heaven and sees Katy. And if you consider who Albert <i>really</i> ends up being, it makes sense in the context of 4EG's post.<br><br><br><br>

Heh, well, I was thinking about the topic, and then I got the DVD and watched the scenes when he first arrives in Heaven. I'm planning on re-watching the rest of the movie soon.<br><br><br><br>
Since in the movie he's creating his Heaven as he goes along, it's interesting he sees his dog before anyone else. He didn't create Albert. Though, your point is valid because Katy certainly can't sit down with him an explain where he is, why, and what's going on.<br><br><br><br>

I fully believe that if I make it to Heaven that God will have my mansion prepared for ME. That means whatever it takes it for it to be heaven for me (within reason, of course, I don't want anybody reading too much into that---gotta be in God's law here!) will be in my mansion. If God knows that I would be happiest by having some of my dogs there that I had on Earth, God can very easily put those dogs there. So I certainly don't believe that all animals go to Heaven, but if a Christian dies and they want their animal in Heaven, I believe God will find a way for that animal to be there.<br><br><br><br>
Of course, the other argument is that there is a scripture in Isaiah where people will wake up on the New Earth (assuming the meek who inherited it) and their lives on the old Earth will be like a fleeting dream. In that instance, perhaps our furry friends won't be there with us, nor even remembered all that well, but I believe that there are furry friends on the New Earth and in Heaven waiting for good homes just like on Earth.
