My name is Tarra. I have been a vet tech for 7 years now and have been a vegetarian for 5 months and I LOVE it! I used to be a huge meat eater...chicken at every meal! I thought that it was the thing that you needed to do to eat as much protein as you could if you were to build muscle. I play tons of sports and workout, so I was afraid to have no energy.
My friend watched Forks over Knives and challenged my girlfriend and I to a month of being Vegan. We of course accepted the challenge...I never back down from a challenge! It was hard for the first week, but after that I started noticing that I had much more energy! I couldn't believe it! I was all of a sudden getting better running times, becoming faster in hockey, I was starting to loose weight AND....gain muscle!
Since that month, we have decided to become vegetarians. I love eggs! I don't eat them as often as I did before, and we now get our eggs from my friend who challenged us. He has a small hobby farm. This way I know that the chickens were not abused in any way. Being a vet tech and saving animals every day, just didn't make sense to me why I would eat meat.
I do what I can now to help other people make better food choices. Not only to not eat meat, but to stay away from processed foods and eat whole foods.
I look forward to chatting with everybody on the forum. I looked around and so many great convos!!
Hi Tarra and welcome to the veggie side! What a wonderful story, I love reading about what made other veggies give up meat. And you had awesome side effects and you sound really enthusiastic about your new lifestyle! Great to have you here
