I have a friend who had done up her bathrooms according to themes. One is an aqarium and one is a African jungle. Very cool. I have my own bathroom and decided to do a very feminine garden theme, inspired by a Midsummer's night dream shower curtain with fairies on it. This is the first time I've ever attempted a project like this and I love it.<br><br>
Now the bathroom downstairs just has a toilet and sink in it and I'd like to do another theme in there. I want people to walk in the bathroom and say 'hey this is cool'. Any suggestions for a theme?

Day/night theme would be really cool. Paint the walls with abstract images of stars and a moon, or a sun and bright orange/yellow/red paints. Make the rays of the sun curl up and swirl around the walls. Half and half would be cool, too.

Our guest bathroom has a spanish tile floor (it's sort of a burnt orange color) so we did the rest of the bathroom with a bit of spanish flair. We accessorized w/mix & match jars and a soap dish made of green, translucent glass. The towels, rugs, etc. are mixes of a maize-yellow, different browns, and ivory. The wastebasket is rattan & some metal that has a sort of wrought-iron look to it. I've got a couple candles in burnt orange and yellow. I topped it all off w/ a framed picture of a portion of Ernest Hemingway's garden in Key West... his wife decorated it with some spanish & south american items from her travels.

I like Fafa's idea. I used to have a moon and stars theme in my bathroom. I also like frogs. You can do a whole pond/lilly pad/ frog theme, and they have plenty of froggy decorations at super stores (Target, Walmart, etc).

i just totally redid our guest bath in the whole fifties style. black and white tile, chrome fixtures, neon signs, even a red padded stool . . . the bathtub is now freestanding and there are old coke ads on the wall.

Friends of mine have a Scooby Doo bathroom. I kid you not. It's the only bathroom in their house, too. I implore you--please do not have a Scooby Doo bathroom.<br><br><br><br>
Abstract art could be cool--get a projector and copy a simple abstract painting onto transparency film. Project the image onto the wall and trace. Paint appropriately and then one whole wall is a famous work of art.

i've always wanted a rock-n-roll bathroom. red walls (and porceline, including the tub and toilet and sink!) and black and white tiles, with b-n-w pictures of rock-n-roll greats and maybe some old tabs hung up in frames and some guitar-esque type stuff.<br><br><br><br>
one day, one day...

i did that mural idea on my living room wall (see attached). didnt use a projector, i used the grid method. the projector may be hard in a bathroom, depending on how big the room is you may not be able to pull it back far enough to fill the opposing wall with the art. but the grid method works great.<br><a href="http://cdn.veggieboards.com/7/7d/7d9c27b0_vbattach428.jpeg"><img alt="LL" src="http://cdn.veggieboards.com/7/7d/525x525px-LL-7d9c27b0_vbattach428.jpeg" style="width:450px;height:304px;"></a>

when i had a house i redid one of ours in black and white tile, tiling in skulls and crossbones with broken tile...it was way cool..I painted the walls black and did a painting treatment that looked sort of like sponging of black with light and dark gray and dark grey flecked in...I then took a newspaper print like stamp and stamped in black around the room I also stamped random words around the room they were faded tho so you could only see them a little bit..all the fixtures were white and the shower curtain looked like it had blood dripping down it.. it was entitled the psycho bathroom because of the bloody shower curtain.i loved that bathroom.. all

What great ideas! We currently have a fish theme in our bathroom (mostly because it's blue) but we're moving in a month and I'm carrying over my living room theme into the bathroom. My house looks kinda like some sort of bordello- lots of leopard print, low lighting, burgundy and chenille. I'm thinking of doing our bathroom in leopard print and burgundy with some framed 50's pin-up girl pictures.<br><br><br><br>
In one place I use to live, my roommate and I had a 50's themed bathroom. We had this really cool shower curtain with black and white pictures of 50's movie stars. Another bathroom in another place my other roommate and I (the only girls in the house) decide to boy-proof our bathroom and made it glittery. I painted it a light purple, and blew glitter into the almost dry paint. We also had a glittery shower curtain. The guys wouldn't use this bathroom. They had their own bathroom that was painted a really dark green, with stenciled machine guns painted on the wall and postcards of Betty Paige lining the wall.

our theme--get this--fox hunting. lol<br><br><br><br>
i didn't choose the wall paper--which is a plaid: beige background, blue, burgandy, dark green, and yellow-gold in the plaid.<br><br><br><br>
the previous owner (well, the designer for the company, as ours was the model home) had a sort of weird country theme throughout the house--not our style. So, i used what my mom had around to make it nicer.<br><br><br><br>
she had a navy blue shower curtain that has long narrow stripes like leather straps with gold buckles (sorta like horse gear), and then horses (small) in between the thin stripes of horses and riders in burgandy riding gear. She also had two pictures of fox hunts in nice frames with navy mat board. I bought green, navy, burgandy, and neutral towels to match.<br><br><br><br>
it looks nice.<br><br><br><br>
but i hate wall paper. The downstairs bathroom has a bird house and flower theme. paper is hideous, but i haven't had time to work on that room.

Here's a bonza idea..... a true blue Aussie dunny look.<br><br><br><br>
First, around the toilet seat construct, out of wood planks, a box. Rip the toilet seat off and bung the planks over it, then cut a hole in it. People will sit on this (ensure wood with plenty of splinters is used). If you can get inside the toilet bowl really dark, then that's better (and no flush capabilities is even more bang on).<br><br><br><br>
Now chuck the same types of planks (or corrugated iron) over all the walls, window(s), and ceiling. Remove any artificial light sources.<br><br><br><br>
Next, get rid of the toilet paper. Get some old newspaper and rip it into smaller pieces, then nail these (with a big nail) to the wall.<br><br><br><br>
Paint, or better yet stick small plastic Redback spiders here and there (especially right near the seat). A couple of plastic snakes here and there should be spot on too. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=""><br><br><br><br>
The floor should have dirt spread on it. And 'Roo droppings. Also have some plastic (or even real) Dunny Budgies (Blowies; known as Blowflies).<br><br><br><br>
For the sink/basin, I can't think of much except to somehow rig it so the water drains in the opposite direction. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/wink3.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title=";)"><br><br><br><br>
Don't use air freshener; just leave a can of Aeroguard (maybe disguised as air freshener). Also throw a couple of empty cans of VB (Victoria Bitter; a beer) here and there.<br><br><br><br>
In the bathtub, dump a heap of cans of VB, and dump ice over them (this will be your Eski).<br><br><br><br>
And there you go..... a dinky-di Aussie-dunny style bathroom. What a ripper.

LOL Kurmudgeon<br><br><br><br>
Awesome mural Hellboy!!!<br><br><br><br>
I was thinking about doing another 'bring the outdoors in' idea but something different than a garden. I was also considering doing a country theme. I'm Irish, so that was a possibility but I also like the spanish idea.
