I just saw the posts from the militant omnis, seconds before they were removed. What's the deal with that sort of behavior? What's really strange to me is that all we do is abstain from a certain behavior, not engage in one that someone could cite as offensive. E.g., someone could at least make an argument that you shouldn't be gay because it's "against the bible" -- I wouldn't agree with them, but at least they have some sort of reason behind their opinion. But why the heck would anyone care whether we eat meat or not?

Oh, of course I'm not really trying to argue this point, as it's too insane to take seriously. Quite pathetic, really. Apparently there are some really bored bastards out there.

I just don't understand why a person would go onto a special interest board such as this and try to pick a fight by disagreeing or mocking their beliefs. Why would somebody want to start a flame war? If you are a hardcore omni, fine, go find a hardcore omni board and leave us alone. Sorry - had to vent.

ETA - it has been a strange week here at work too. Must be a phase of the moon or something

Well, there are some omnis who are great. My family respects my vegetarianism, although they don't agree with out, and although my dad is worried about my B12 intake, my family is very accomodating towards me being vegetarian. My friends are great about it as well.

However, some omnis can be arsewipes. Particularly the troll who came on here before. Now, as a younger teenager, I used to troll chatrooms, so I'm no better than this guy, except that I'm now more mature and I've stopped.

But what I don't like is that some omnis will complain about how "preachy" vegetarians are and then try to convert us. It's annoying. A lot of anti-vegetarians are extremely ignorant, and proud of it.

Those morons weren't trying to convert (by rational argument, for example), but rather to taunt. Nanny-nanny-boo-boo, and that's about the appropriate age level for that sort of thing. I'm sure that cretins like that are now heading out for an evening of attacking gays, beating up non-whites, and molesting children.

Exactly. What's more preachy than going to another group's message board to harass them?

I know a lot of people who admit to having trolled messaged boards, and they all say when they got older and more mature (and important things to do with their lives) they realized how stupid it was.

Perhaps he was actually a plant by the National Cattleman's Association attempting to get us all riled up so our responses could be used in future websites aimed at children--such as notcool2bveg.com or vegetariansarestupid.com--which would attempt to sway the public back to a red-meat-centered diet.

I was sitting close to someone the next table over at dinner tonight, someone who looked to old enough to know better, and he was revelling in how he kept lying to everyone who asked him what movie he was standing in line for the other night when he went to see "The Matrix Reloaded." Evidently the people in line behind him intervened and started telling people the truth, annoying the merry prankster, so he accused the nice people of not knowing how to have fun and of being "like my grandparents."

There are some really sad, sad people out there. I never understood how betraying even something as simple as a common trust could be fun. Mean never equaled fun for me, and I can't stand how much humor is based in meanness.

On another board I read, there was a veg*n discussion. One kid posted about how his relatives own a cattle ranch, and that's how they make their money. He urged everyone to go eat meat, so they wouldn't go out of business. He was basically saying, "think of my family."

Well what about all the animals?!! That whole post really pissed me off. I don't post on that board for various reasons, so I didn't reply. Anyway, the point of that story is that some people DO find it offensive that we don't eat meat. It makes them angry, just as meat-eaters may make us angry because they eat meat.

(I didn't see the posts that this thread is referring to)

Agreed about the excellent moderating. I don't think those posts were up for more than 15 minutes. Doesn't mean we can't talk about them behind their backs now that they're gone, though!
