The Bach Flower Essences are 100% safe and natural, also in conjunction with herbs, homeopathy and medications; safe for everyone, also children, pregnant women, pets, elderly and even plants

Bach Flower Essences

I had a bad reaction (throat swelling up and airway closing) after the first time I used rescue remedy. I have been afraid try again ever since. i'm sure the RR was not the cause, but could it have accelerated the reaction? I only have allergic reactions like that (throat closing/can't breathe) when I am in contact with pet hair. I really want to give them another go, but feel a bit shy. Any ideas why that happened?

It should not accelerate the reaction. Did you take the Rescue Remedy when you were having a panic attack or something?

Also, there are different companies making "Bach Flower Remedies", and some are junk.

The Bach Flower Remedies are preserved in alcohol. Are you perhaps "allergic" to alcohol?

Yes--I wouldn't say "panic attack" as in chest tight/can't breathe sort of thing (I've had those before) This was more of a "panic attack lite" where I was just really stressed and I was shaking all over and breathing really shallow and crying. We had just finished the book keeping and finally realized how many 10s of thousands we were in debt and that we were going to have to sell our beloved bookstore or declare bankruptcy. So a really stressful event. A customer gave me 2 drops of Bach's rescue remedy under my tongue and with in 30 minutes I was in full allergic mode and had to shut the bookshop. I went home and took an anti histamine but the reaction continued and I had to go to hospital and have an injection to stop it.

I don't know why.

I doubt absolutely that this had anything to do with the Bach Flower Remedies. Have never heard of this.

It's impossible in fact. In the bottle is alcohol and... the MEMORY of the plant. There is not even any plant EXTRACT in it. It is so diluted that, just as in homeopathy, you will not find anything even if you look for it under a microscope.

Two drops of Bach Flower Remedy in an Emergency situation is like giving a drop of water to a thirsty plant. It's not going to help much. In an Emergency situation, one would need to sip water with some drops in it regularly for a couple of hours, or take drops every ten or twenty minutes or so for a few hours.

Like I said, it's impossible to have a reaction unless you are completely and utterly allergic to alcohol.

I'm sure it was just some other trigger (I have been known to have this strong of a reaction when I hugged someone with pet hair on their clothes so it is posible to have a reaction without actual primary contact with an animal) but I think because it happened when I used the RR it has made me shy about trying again. I'm SURE there was no connection but it's a connection by association, ya know? Like something bad happens you see a black cat you think the cat caused the problem because it appeared when the bad thing happened but in reality--no connection. A habit I want to break because I would really like to try some again.

Thanks for the advice.

I also doubt it had anything to do with the “flower essence” because it’s inert. Something to consider tho with unregulated products is pkg handling, preserving, and actual ingredients. Try to find a company with a good rep who has been around a while so you can check references etc. Ideally people should do this with all unregulated products. You also have the option of making your own remedy rather than spending money unnecessarily.

eta: if you scroll down the page in this link, the author explains how to do it.

http://members.ozemail.com.au/~teramai/vibrational.html

Imo, the process of creating a remedy looks like a lot of fun and it could be more therapeutic than the remedy itself!

It could be that there were cat hairs on the bottle that the client gave you. Perhaps she had a cat. Cat hairs get everywhere.

Do they really work? It'd be interesting to see studies done with placebos.

Of course in this case the placebo would be chemically identical.
