I've talked my boyfriend into having a vegetarian wedding if we ever get married. It's funny, the first time we had silly conversations about marriage and kids, the vegetarian thing was OUT. NOOO vegetarian wedding NOOO vegetarian kids.

Well, he's changed his mind on both fronts, and even eats vegetarian at home. Last time we were talking about weddings he said something about how most people like to have meat in their meals, and I agreed but said it was one meal of their lives, and they'd manage when I manage tons of places with no real food for me. It's not like they wouldn't have a delicious meal. He agreed.

The hypothetical children will also be raised vegetarian until old enough to make their own decision. The challenge now if we get married would be finding a place in the area who would cater vegetarian and make a dairy free wedding cake. Of course this is all many years off at this point, so no worries.

Even though you've got quite a while to think about it, I thought I'd share what I did just because I'm a newlywed and I can. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/smiley.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="

We actually had a fast food place called Taco Cabana cater our wedding. Tommy is a manager at one, but that's not even why we chose them. They made black beans, Spanish rice, and corn and then there were tortillas, taco shells, chips, queso, shredded lettuce, pico, fresh salsa, shredded cheese, guacamole, and all the typica Tex Mex fixings. There was a big buffet and everyone went through and made their own tacos. In a situation like that, everything is familar and there's so many options so no one is even thinking about the lack of meat.

My uncle works for a restaurant supply company and offered to donate 10 pounds each of fajita beef and chicken, but I told him while that's very generous, I'm not comfortable serving it. Good thing too because with everything else, that would have been WAY too much food. My guests were more than satisfied with black beans. There was literally nothing left on the buffet by the end of the night.

For a cake, we didn't do vegan but we easily could have; I had my best friend make 200 cupcakes and cookies and set them up on a table with strawberries and dips. In the center was a little cake she made just for us. All of the stuff she made three weeks in advance and froze and it tasted really soft and fresh on the day. It also looked AMAZING, like something out of a magazine. There is no way any cake could have looked that elaborate and gorgeous.

The good thing too about what we chose is that not only was it easy to veg*nize, it was also super cheap! Our entire sweets table was less than $100 and our catering was about $3 per person.
