Following the lifting of the suspension of the live cattle trade to Indonesia, there is now a 2nd National Day of Action on Sunday August 14th with a rally in all major cities around Australia.

This rally is even more important than the last as it comes just days ahead of a vote on historic bills in Parliament on Thursday August 18 2011 to end the cruel live export trade.

This is your opportunity to join with other caring Australians to show public support for this important legislation!

Melbourne: 10.30AM
-The steps of Parliament House
Sydney: 3pm - City recital Hall, Angel Place
Adelaide: 12pm - Elder Park, around the Rotunda.
Brisbane: 2pm - King George Square
Perth: - 12PM - Esplanade Reserve - Fremantle
Canberra: - 11am - lawns of Parliament House
Hobart: - 12pm - Parliament House

The following video is a montage of still shots from one of the last rallies back in June.

I will actually be in Jakarta on business the week before and after the rally day but will be at the Esplanade Reserve in spirit.

Good on ya!

In my city, it was a great turnout, there were probably three or four times the number of people showed up at the rally today than at the last one, which was good to see.

Big props to Lyn White, she's a gutsy woman for getting all this rolling - a tear definitely rolled down my cheek when I listened her speech today. Realistically, I don't think the bill will go through on Thursday, but we can live in hope can't we.

Some footage of Lyn's speech from the Melbourne rally today.

It will be interesting to see what happens with the labor MP Tony Zappia's notice of motion. it's due for debate in the caucus v. soon so i've read. I think it's possible that only a backbench style revolt can save these poor animals now.

following the tragic news about turkey and israel now, i've heard some underground rumbles of an even bigger national rally. don't know the accuracy of that goss right now I hope it's legit.

I haven't heard any more about that but I'm sure it will eventuate. This isn't over yet is it.

Here's some footage of last Saturday's protest in SA, the third rally in three days that finally saw the departure of the sheep to the ME.

Go SA!

For anyone possibly reading this in WA, i just got an urgent msg regarding a protest happening in WA tomorrow in Freo at 11am at the E shed. The ship that left Adelaide a few days ago with sheep onboard is arriving. Get down there if you can and make your voice heard as they need all the people they can get!

The banner actually said "please let me die at home" and although it is worded in a way we veg*ns find offensive, it basically sums up the whole point of the rally. The sheep are going to die regardless, but it's just a plea to do it here in Australia under slightly more humane conditions.

It didn't seem horrible from the footage i've seen. It seemed a lot like the protests in all the other states which was a pretty awesome vibe. It was great to see all different types of people from all walks of life uniting for a common goal.

I noticed there's another protest in Freo at 11am this morning. They pulled the same stunt as before and didn't dock to avoid the protesters. Hopefully Freo can pull a 3 dayer on this one like Radelaide!
