Asperger's Syndrome?

Er, I dont know if I should be coming out of the closet here, but I have Aspergers. I have a diagnosis. From my discovery, a diagnosis is not really useful unless you are unable to work and need to access social services. Otherwise you are just paying $X00 to sit across from some patronising psych person who will later use the money for their golf membership, or overseas travel fund.

Some people get a diagnosis out of curiosity, which is fine, but I never seeked one for that reason, as it was pretty obvious to me as several family members also have it.

If you want to find out more about Aspergers, a good way to go is read online blogs by people with Aspergers and see if anyone writes stuff you can relate to. Also you could try joining as AS group in your area if you want to meet people with AS.

Personally I would want to know but I understand why you wouldn't really care to find out.
Well it is basically whether to get a professional opinion about it or not. Many people with AS feel that if you read enough up about it, and meet people with it, you can get a pretty general idea of whether you have it or not, and if you are still unsure, you can seek an opinion if you want. The tests that the psychs get you to do are all available on the internet anyway, so what you are paying for is for someone to take you through these tests, and offer you an opinion based on the experience they have. And then there is the cost, which varies depending on the psych.

It can be expensive, which is kind of crappy because often people who need the diagnosis the most because they need to obtain social services, are likely to have the least money.

If you decide to go for one, it is best to go to a psch who specialises in AS, as psychs who dont will not know what to look for.

No, it doesnt. They pretty much just look at you as if you have suddenly grown an extra head, then they are awkward around you for a few weeks, and then they forget about it, and behave towards you as they always have.
