Ask Japan to Provide Aid to Disaster-Affected Animals!

Since the massive earthquake that struck Japan in mid-March, many residents in the Fukushima areahome to one of the country's nuclear power plants, which is now unstablehave been unable to return home because of fears over radiation poisoning. Despite the fact that farmed animals and companion animals are dying of starvation in Fukushima, the Japanese government has declared a 20-kilometer no-go zone around the nuclear plant and has threatened to prosecute anyone who enters the area. It is estimated that there are hundreds of thousands of pigs, chickens, and cows inside the zone.
While local animal protection groups in Japan have been advised that government operations are underway to rescue companion animals, farmed animals are apparently continuing to suffer. Many animals have already died of starvation, dehydration, and hypothermia.
Please urge the Japanese government to take immediate action to transfer farmed animals inside the 20-kilometer no-go zone to facilities where they can be cared for or to euthanize any animals who are suffering. PETA Asia and other groups have offered to go into the zone to rescue the animals without liability to the Japanese government.
