It's a bit ironic that it's sponsered by Red Bull. That drink contains Taurine which is an amino acid derived from animals.

Isn't it? But the thing is, it's Paul McCartney, and Red Bull wanted to put its name behind a big star. They don't give a crap about any other factor besides the fact that it's Paul McCartney.

Of course Red Bull don't care why should they, it's just business to them, but maybe Macca should care.

I always assumed that the taurine in red bull and other energy drinks was synthetic. I'm pretty sure it can be synthetic as it is added to vegan cat food. I'm having a hard time finding out for definite the source of taurine in red bull. sybaritik, do you have a source for the fact that it is animal-based?

wikipedia says:

Quote:

Taurine in the pharmaceutical and lab setting is synthesized through a combination of cysteine, methionine and vitamin E.

but I'm not sure whether that applies to food.

the wikipedia page for red bull says:

Quote:

The main ingredient in Red Bull that purportedly provides energy is taurine, a substance that was first found within the bile of an ox in 1827 by German scientists Friedrich Tiedemann and Leopold Gmelin; however, taurine that is used commercially is produced synthetically.

I don't really like relying on wikipedia. I'm going to look later. I don't really like enegry drinks anyway, but a vegan friend of mine does

The taurine in Red Bull is synthetic, according to the company website.

Avril Lavigne has to be one of the most fickle "vegans" in Hollywood. I remember reading an interview with her about a year ago in which she said one of her favorite hobbies was hunting! I hope she doesn't appear in any ads for veg*nism, that would just be a joke.

Yeah, I think she's kind of an on-and-off health veg*n. In one interview she took a bite of a friend's burger, but it was alright because one bite wasn't going to do any harm and she didn't buy her own burger.

Does no one else think this article might be an April Fool's joke? It was posted on the 1st, and some of the team-up's sound kinda ridiculous to me... then if you check the Bristol Vean Fayre web site, there is absolutely no mention of Paul McCartney. Seems to me if it were true, they'd be advertising it all over the place... right?

I mean, look at the song titles.. "We All Live in a Yellow Aubergine"?? A disco version of "Meat is Murder"??

EDIT: Also, the Fayre's web site doesn't list Red Bull as a sponsor. I say this is a hoax.

UPDATE:

I have to apologize for posting information about Red Bull that is several years out of date. I'm not sure about the U.S. but in my country, the ingredients list for RB several years ago mentioned that the taurine was animal derived. Obviously they've changed their practices since then. Sorry for not checking that before I posted!

Don't even mention her in the same paragraph with 'ads' and 'veg*nism': a PETA rep may be reading that and get another disastrous idea.

This is like the 4th or 5th April Fools joke I've fallen for this year. Might've helped if I'd have read it properly.

Morrisey performing a disco version of 'Meat is Murder'.

^^^That would've given it away. He hates dance music!

Here's another one I fell for regarding Pete Doherty

http://www.gigwise.com/news.asp?contentid=30012

I even noticed the irony in the anti-drug campaigners name and it still didn't click that it was April 1
