I hardly ever get sick. In the last few weeks since I've been trying to eat vegan, I've been awfully sick. I have a constant headache, a yeast and bladder infection, and it feels like i have the flu. I'm just curious, cause i never get the flu, i take a lot of vit c. I just feel like my immune system is being attacked or something. I havent been sick in years.

could changing to soy be doing this? I thought at first that it was the fact that soy milk is sweetened, but i always got sugar in other things before the switch. I also ate soy in things before cause it seems to be in everything nowadays. I'm kinda discouraged about this whole lifestyle change as it is with it being so hard, and on top of that my whole body hurts

ETA:Yey! It finally posted! the title wasnt supposed to be "arrgh" but the server wouldnt take anything else

It could just be a coincidence, too. After all, this is the season for all sorts of bugs to go around.

How big of a switch was this for you? Did you go from omni to vegan? or vegetarian to vegan?

IMO, A few weeks of veganism isn't enough time to develop the vitamin deficiencies necessary to cause immune system failure. My best guess is, for at least part of your symptoms, it's winter, we're cooped up, people are gross and don't wash their hands enough, and there are germs swimming around, and you got some.

The yeast and bladder infection of course wouldn't be germ related, but they could cause you to feel icky.

Omni to vegan! Big change! Did you do it cold turkey? If so, your body could be doing some heavy detoxing.

I don't think it would be the soy. Although, don't OD on it or anything.

For getting your Vitamin-C try a drink called Emergen-C. It is very good for colds etc. I have a teeny cold right now too (and I never get sick either) so I drinking some as I type.

Don't give up on the vegan diet. That isn't what is making you sick. You might want to do it in slower portions.

I just got the stomach flu (and now the rest of the house has head colds along with me)

I don't think it's my diet.

But, drink plenty of water and cranberry juice! Sounds like you need some tea also.

*makes you peppermint tea*

It's awesome when you have a cold or a tummy ache.

I'm sick too. I think I have a sinus infection, so to the doc I go.

BTW - this is very rare for me! I hardly ever get sick, and I've been pretty darn vegan for a year and a half.

If I get sick it is usually after I had to spend time out in some horrible freezing temperature -which is what I think happened this time.

My bf and i went to a kite-flying thing on New Year Day by the lake and boy, was the wind cold. We were only out there like half an hour but that is all it takes me for me to get my ears solid frozen and my cheeks bright red.

Argh, I really hate being sick too.

yeah pretty much cold turkey... after watching all the peta videos, drinking milk is the same to me as sitting down to eat a steak. I already take quite a bit of vit c, about 6-8 g's a day... so thats why i was surprised cause since doing that i havent been sick one bit. I'm really hoping that it's just a big detox! that makes alot of sense too

It really depends on the individual but yes, headaches can be a symptom of detox. One common one is your skin breaking out too.

I am glad you are doing better! Me, on the other hand, is still sicky! *cough*

At least, I can tell I am towards the end of it - I always get a cough last in my colds.
