I just had a baby in February 06. Before that I had a baby in February of '01 and September of '99. Never really lost the weight. Now that I've shut down the baby factory (I had Mirena implanted last month-and I hope that doesn't make me gain), I'm ready to reclaim my body.

A little background...25y/o married SAHM (for now anyway) in PA. According to all the calculators on the net I need to lose more like 90+ lbs, but I'll settle for 60. Gotta start somewhere right? I've been mostly lacto-ovo-vegetarian over the years (chicken here and there) and this Monday I've started to try to go back veg*an. Any takers?

I don't have 60 lbs to lose. I'm having more of a problem with some extra menopausal pounds that are extremely stubborn. But I wish you luck!! Hopefully going vegan will help!

I only need to lose about 25-30 pounds but I've lost 50 so far. I can give you loads of unsolicited nutrition and exercise advice.

Hi sarahjayn. Hey-I was born in FL (Orlando). A food journal/exercise log would be good. Are you veg*an or vegetarian? Maybe we coordinate some meal plans... What are your plans (foodwise and exercisewise)? I was in a car accident back in September while I was still pregnant and have a herniated disc and a degenerated disc so I have to be careful with the exercise. I did TaeBo Total Body Fat Blaster the other and hurt for two days after (but a good hurt). I'll mostly be doing tapes (mostly cardio, alternating with pilates and a little yoga) as I can't go to the gym with the baby. Plus its a little expensive right now.

Oh and I'm 5'6'' and weigh 228 lbs.

p.s. I'm a list maker too (damn ocd )

So do you want to post the log here or is there a specific place here that you're supposed to do that?

Walking's good. I want to take the baby to the park since they're finished building the new trail. Pushing that boat of a stroller is definitely exercise!

Maybe you can help me out. As a relatively new vegan (again. I tried this before) I don't have much variety in my diet yet (this is one of the reasons why I didn't succeed before-I got tired of eating just salads and fruit). So I'm at a loss about what I should be eating in general as a vegan and even more at a loss about what I should be eating to lose weight. Any suggestions?

Keeping a food log really helps. I've found that I've been the most successful when I write down everything that goes into my mouth. My best advice is to exercise your butt off. Find something that will keep you working hard for 30 minutes to an hour 4-6 times a week. What exercise you choose is HIGHLY personal. What might be a great, challenging workout for me, might be WAY too hard for someone else and might even be too easy for someone else. I like exercise videos because they're idiot-proof and fun and convenient. I HATE going to the gym. It takes too long, it's boring, it's crowded and it's expensive. With a couple of exercise videos and minimal equipment, you can keep yourself challenged for a few months at least. You also want to work some weight training into your exercise routine. It keeps you from losing muscle while you're restricting calories and keeps your bones strong. To start out use light weights (or no weight) and move up as you get stronger.

To give you some background, back in 2003 I weighed 220 pounds (I'm 5'4"). It took me 2 years to lose 50 pounds. In the past year, I gained back 10 and in the past few months, I lost those again. I've got about 25-30 pounds to go. Part of the reason I've gone vegetarian in the past few weeks is that it makes it MUCH easier for me to control my calories (ditching cheese has helped tremendously.)

sarahjayn-No, I've never read Sarah Kramar's books. Cookbooks right? I did just receive "Vegan with a Vengeance" in the mail today...looks good.

codemonkey-I agree about the food log. I also find that I eat a lot less when I have to write everything down.

eclipse-as a person who used to have an eating disorder I found your "sarcasm" kind of offensive but I thank you for your wish of good luck...

Thanks everyone else for the support...

I still have over 80# to go, I've been doing the VB weightloss challange but seem tohave hit this damn plateau where NOTHING's budging...ugh...

You could post percentages (see the first post of that thread for info on how to figure the percentages) weekly in the VB WeightLoss Thread. I think they'll let you start any time even though the thread originally started in Jan.

Posting the PERCENTAGE you've lost is nice because you don't have to announce an actual NUMBER of pounds... (I know for me anyway, there's no way in HECK I'm posting actual pounds here or anywhere).

But I'm in, since I've been doing this for some time now... slowly but surely...

Tofu-N-Sprouts-I'll have to check out the Weightloss Challange then...I had thought about it, but I normally feel lost when I come in in the middle of something. The percentage thing is nice I guess-I'm normally one for not posting weight, but since sarahjayn was brave enough to post hers I felt I should post mine too.

nowoutonvinyl-of course we don't mind...the more the merrier! 135...that's about what the charts say I should weigh (118-155). Honestly I think I skipped over that weight. When I was 160ish in high school, my dh looks at those pictures and thought I looked "crack skinny." I'd settle for that, but trying to get to 118 would probably make me relapse or something. Ih yeah, and your dr is a jerk.

UseHerName-thanks!!

sarahjayn1980-I'm sure it will catch on...I thought I'd be the only vegan with 60+ lbs to lose... Okay so we'll post starting tomorrow (I guess that would be today, now wouldn't it? ), though I might start mine earlier and just edit/add to the post throughout the day-that way I don't leave anything out. Well off to drink some tea!......

That's a great accomplishment! Good words of advice for others - it's great to see when people lose weight the healthy way and encourage others to do so, too!
