Some cocktails use egg whites. I'm not sure why (to make it foamy or something), and I don't really drink cocktails (booze is for cooking with to me, not mixing drinks). WHY? And any vegany ideas for getting the same effect?

Yes the egg white is just to make it foamy. After a bit of research to get with all the technical terms I find it is a "foaming agent." In a bit of googling I found that a couple of artificial foamers exist but reading a review sounds like they aren't worth having.

I would just leave it out and use a decent cocktail shaker. If you mix and pour the drink right it will be foamy without adding anything like egg white. Might lose a little texture but nothing to worry about.
