That sounds like my own taste in comic books. Fromper, having read your response, the superhero teams you mentioned seem very obscure to me; my own guess would probably be something along the lines of the Avengers, if I could prove that anyone beyond the Hulk was vegetarian, that is

Spidergrrl, when you say 'collect' Lenore, you mean the issues rather than the volumes?

Not even Jhonen Vasquez's Squee and I Feel Sick? If you liked JTHM, I would definitely recommend the latter.

I do have JTHM and Squee [both Director's Cut]. I have not read I Feel Sick yet.

I'll agree that the Metal Men are fairly obscure. The Legion of SuperHeroes, though, are about as mainstream as you can get in American superhero comics. They're popular enough to have kicked Superboy out of his own comic book. Just about anyone who reads DC superheroes (Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Justice League, etc) knows them, and I'm pretty sure they were DC's best selling comic for most of the 70's and early 80's, with the possible exception of the Teen Titans. The only reason the general public doesn't know the Legion is that they've never had a movie or major tv show, although apparently they have a cartoon now.

Nowadays, I don't really read comics any more. Superhero comics seem to have become more redundant than ever. I got into some of the darker stuff along the way, reading the Sandman series in its entirety, along with Books of Magic, Fables, Y: The Last Man, etc but I just sort of lost interest somewhere along the way.

As far as I'm concerned, the comic book industry is dying. It succeeded in its goal of popularizing certain types of stories, but now those stories are moving on to TV and movies, and leaving the comic books behind. And I'm not just talking about adaptions of comic books, but also shows and movies that are in the style of what would have been published as a comic book in the past - Buffy the Vampire Slayer comes to mind immediately.

I like the non-mainstream, non-superheroish graphic novels...I recently found a good shop in Newcastle called Travelling Man but I'm sticking to getting them out of the library at the moment as I'm trying to save money!

No we just have the volumes (Cooties, Wedgies and Noogies) although we just to also have a Rocky Horror Comic that we collected in issues but we gave that away when we moved overseas along with our extensive collection of Classics Illustrated.

I'm into comics. Right now my pulls are Civil War, Intiative (which comes after Civil War), Wonder Woman, Justice Leauge America, Outsiders, and Buffy Season 8 (new issue out today!), oh! Astonishing X Men. Plus I'm friends with one of the guys at the shop so sometimes he puts things in my file that he thinks I'll like.
