Hello! I've just joined up too. I'm living in Melbourne although i'm not from here. I've recently emigrated from Scotland. Would love to hear from other veggies/vegans in the Melbourne area!

Hey purpledonna! Theres heaps of awesome places if you're in the inner north! Brunswick st you have vegie bar, yong green food, st judes do a vegetarian night. There's also mr naturals pizza further up closer to nortg fitzroy. On smith st you have las vegan bakery, friends of the earth, rice queen and the panama are happy to take vegan requests and another cafe next to wholefoods shop although I've forgotten the name. Theres also trippy taco although cant remember if they've moved. Havent been to all these places some are recommendations but I want to try!

Amazing! Thanks so much for the recommendations. I'd heard of Las Vegan bakery but didn't know it was on Smith St. Annoyingly i've been down there a number of times in the past week or so and haven't spotted it. Probably a good thing as i'd spend all my money in there <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/blush.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="">) Lord Of The Fries is too good! I must admit to eating there more often than I'd like hahaha. Is White Lotus still open? I visited Melbourne two years ago and I think it was closing down then. Did you ever go? It sounded amazing.

It is still open. I'm not keen on it though - no atmos and piss-poor service everytime I've been there . :/<br><br>
My fave restaurants in Melb are Shakahari in Carlton, and Enlightened Cuisine in Southbank (near the casino). EC has a great fake meat menu.

<p id="user_yui_3_5_1_1_1350897919041_448">Hi, I have been a healthy vegetarian for 30 years (vegan for 25 years), my wife for 10 years, and my 4 kids all their life. I live in Melbourne, and produce a veggie blog, 'vegtastic' (<a href="http://www.vegtastic.com" id="user_yui_3_5_1_1_1350897919041_456" target="_blank">www.vegtastic.com</a>). I am interested in learning about how people became vegetarian, and what sort of information they're looking for. I also like to share veggie recipes too, and my current favourite veggie restaurant is Veggie Hut in Box Hill.</p>

<p>There's one on Errol St and one in Abbotsford :) . <br><br>
Mister Nice Guy cupcakes are also absolutely INCREDIBLE ( I actually never liked cupcakes until I tried these. Dense and really flavoursome. Even the icing, which is the bit that's usually strangely hollow and sickly sweet ) . <br>

There's SO MUCH ELSE to eat in Melbourne. What a place! <br><br>
Have you gone to Madame Ks? I don't really get into that much mock meat but this is honestly heaven. And Yong Green food is good for cake/salads/juices...<br>

I'm from Melbourne too! Just went to mama roots for dinner tonight! The food was delicious and very filling but the waitress had some attitude problems. Yay its so good to know there are others out there too and so close by. It gets so lonely sometimes.

<p>Yay, another Melbournian! :D</p>
<p> </p>
<p>I've never heard of mama roots before - something to google for the next meal out!</p>
<p> </p>
<p>I just got back from dinner at Yong Green Food on Brunswick St - I think the whole menu was vegan, and there were plenty of amazing raw food dishes. The food was absolutely amazing, and very creative - I'll definitely be eating there regularly. And it did not have that same busy/rushed vibe that the Vegie Bar has (they're both very close to one another).</p>
