Hi everyone!

Lately my bf and I have been transitioning to eating more simple, whole foods (macrobiotic dishes, raw dishes, etc.) before we still ate vegan but would have the imitation meats, cheeses, etc.

Anyways in addition to that I'd really like to simplify the beauty products I use (moisturizers, soaps, etc.) I currently use all vegan products that don't contain parabens or sulfates but I'd like to shoot for stuff with even less ingredients.

For example, I like the idea of using coconut oil as a make up remover to take off my mascara instead of conventional makeup remover and sesame oil to moisturize my body rather than lotion loaded with chemicals. Does anyone have any home-made beauty product solutions that they'd like to share?

I love coconut oil for everything!

I think it makes a great tooth scrub with some baking soda.

Sugar is a good face scrub.

Vinegar for hair rinse (and laundry rinse, fruit and veggie wash...)

I had done the baking soda/vinegar for my hair successfully for over a year- then it got out of control and I always felt my hair stunk, so I went back to shampoo.

I use Dr. Bronners diluted in a foaming soap dispenser like 1 to 8 parts water.

Other than the rare occasion I put on eye liner, I don't wear makeup.

A small face brush can be used in place of a facial scrub.

Coconut oil is great. I smooth it into my face when I have a bath and then use a hot wrung out bamboo face cloth to massage it off. Leaves skin feeling lovely.

I also brush coconut oil through my hair after towelling dry (just a teeny bit)

Organic Rosewater and Rosehip oil are also nice used togethter as natural toner and moisturiser.

Natural mineral salt products are supposed to eliminate the smell of sweat by preventing bacteria. You wet the crystal and rub it under arms. It does actually work as a deodorant according to my bf who's actually used it working in hot weather, though it won't prevent you actually sweating. PitRock and TheCrystal are two companies I know of, though I don't know what their testing policies are. I think there are numerous others to choose from though. Very long lasting and no aluminium.

I tried it a couple of times, both a rock and a stick, and though it seemed to work in preventing smelliness, I found the stick a bit fiddly and preferred just a lump of crystal.

I don't know about the lump but the roll-on Crystal doesn't work so hot.Just don't plan on sweating too much if you use it.

Thanks everyone!

These are all great tips and I'm very eager to try the coconut oil on my face and in my hair too. As well as the rosewater!

As for the crystal deodorant- I currently use crystal deodorant myself and it works great. (My bf and I use the Naturally Fresh brand, it's only like 3-4 dollars for the roll-on!) Actually since switching to a plant based lifestyle I notice that I don't experience odor as much as before.

I like lemon juice. It helps to get rid of blackheads so easily. Although it makes my skin thiner, it's still ok when I use sun cream. I'm too lazy and just use lemon juice directly to apply to the skin, for about 15 minutes and rinse with clean water. Sometimes, however, I also make a mask with lemon juice, almond oil and glycerin. https://authorityremedies.com/home-remedies-for-blackheads/

I make a simple face/eye moisturizer using coconut oil, vitamin E, rosehip seed oil, matcha, and a drop or 2 of essential oil (optional, for fragrance).

I sometimes make my own cold process soap but you could also just use a plain castile soap too.

For house cleaning, I almost exclusively use a plain old vinegar/water solution ^_^
