Hello everyone here at veggieboards! I am really glad that I found this site when I was bored one day, it is really great! Well, lets start with the basics...I am a vegetarian!! I was inspired by Moby to become a vegetarian, which I did about a year and a half ago. I had bought his cd, Play, and read the cd jacket and realized that vegetarians live better lives! I know that he is a vegan, but I didn't want to make that big of a change right then. My becoming a vegetarian has changed my whole lifestyle...I have become more healthy and aware of animal issues. It is a great thing to be a vegetarian. My mom did not like it at first, because of the whole protein and iron issues, but as I learned more about vegetarianism I found out that I am not lacking anything...except for meat (which is bad anyway). Lately I have been thinking about becoming a vegan because I really do not want to treat animals badly at all. It is just cruel what some people do to animals just for food, when they could get the nutrients elsewhere. I really hate animal suffering, well, all suffering. My mom will not let me become a vegan because she says that I will not have good nutrition. Like not getting enough calcium and vitamin d. I think that when I am out of this house and in college, I will become a vegan. Right now I am a 16 year old girl and a junior in high school. I do not really know anyone else who is a vegetarian. Some of my friends tried being vegetarian for a while, but they couldn't. They liked the taste of meat too much. I think it will be nice to know some people who have the same views that I have!

Hi Liana,

I just thought I'd say that I think Moby is brilliant too! His essays are really inspirational. There are more on his web site http://www.moby.com/ too.

I became vegan a few months ago (& I'm 21) so I didn't have to worry about parents objections luckily. You are doing a great thing being vegetarian & sticking to it. You could probably use the time until you are in college & able to make your own choices to experiment with vegan cooking. Or to clue up your mother (and yourself too)! As long as you are eating a well balanced diet then the vegan one is v. healthy

Hey Liana,

I'm also a Moby fan! yay! I'm 15 and I'm also having trouble with my parents. They were surportive of me becoming vegitarian, but when I became vegan they got concerned. I've tried to educate them about how I make sure I get all the protein, vitamins and calcium that I need, but they aren't listening...Finally I agreed to meet with a dietition:S I will let you knwo how that goes...
