For economic reasons I'm moving in with a buddy from high school. With us combining resources and sharing expenses, we'll both do better financially. Right now I rent a single bedroom apartment. My moving in with the friend I'll be able to afford a much better place and save up a larger surplus of money.

So I get a phone call from my brother in which he quoted a joke I made years ago when I was annoyed with a woman I had been dating. I had said, "Maybe I should turn gay." He was worried that I actually did that. For one thing, no one turns gay. They either are or they aren't. For another thing, there's nothing wrong with being gay. I'm just not one of them.

My family still believes in the ridiculous stereotypes of gays as being mentally ill perverts who are out to destroy children. It's so annoying. From time to time on Facebook I've posted things in support of gay rights. I did that because I believe they deserve to be treated like human beings. Now I'm sure my family had a supposed "ah-hah" moment as if no one who's not gay would ever have any motive to want gay people to live free from harassment and with equal rights. Of course, I'm sure it explains my vegetarianism because what man would want to do that if he weren't gay?

I'm just annoyed that my family's views are relics from another century. I wouldn't be annoyed if someone got something else factually incorrect about me such as I was born in Chicago or I'm Canadian or left handed. This one is annoying because I know they think it's something evil when it's really not.

GGGRRRRRRRRR

Now if I come across a video clip or article in support of gay rights, I don't think I can post it on Facebook. I'm @#$%ing annoyed!

Maybe I should just post that stuff here.

Why not say "I'm not gay. Not that there is anything wrong with that."

Or tell them you really really are, and they should be supportive. Either way. :p

Totally disagree. This is all the more reason to continue to educate the ignorant masses, even if it causes more drama.

Hide the things you post on Facebook from your family. You can limit individual people from seeing specific posts.

If not, you can just tell them I ran you over with my Gayroller 2000.

Show them this.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rM02vHtftd0

Well, of course it's also the issue of whether one is gay or becomes gay, but let's leave it for another thread.

I've got the perfect line:
"I'm heterosexual ... not that there's anything wrong with that."

I don't think they would get the joke.

Dig up some random woman on the internet who'd be willing to help you break into a relative's house, and get "caught in the act" with them by the relative residing in said house.

In his cross-dressing days, in his show Dress to Kill, straight comedian Eddie Izzard joked, "I'm a male lesbian. That's where the sexuality is."

So maybe you should use that line. You're a male lesbian.

Gotta love stereotyping. I've had someone think I'm gay because I'm not married and don't have kids and evidently I'm too old for that lifestyle. People are dumb.

Looks like I underestimated my family. My brother is the only one who thought I was gay, probably as a result of his wife who fills his head full of bahooey. I talked with my mom. She said she and dad know I'm straight and that even if I were gay they would accept me like that.
