We're planning on going on a 4000 mile road trip this summer. Since we won't have an itinerary set in stone, we aren't going to be making reservations anywhere. So, I'd like to know in advance if there are any hotel or motel chains that allow animal companions. Could anyone help me out? An internet search isn't giving me much so far.

Where are you located? In the US? I'm afraid I can only comment on UK and EU ones but the following links might help.

http://www.petswelcome.com/

http://www.pets-allowed-hotels.com/

La Quinta is pet friendly and they have wireless internet. We moved across the country with our dog back in September and we stayed in La Quinta hotels the whole way. They were all very clean and the staff was friendly and accomodating.

Red Roof Inn is another motel that allows dogs of any size with no deposit!

Their rates are usually pretty low - but they are pretty no-frills. Although they are remodeling alot of their Inns and they look great and the new rooms have fridges! (bonus for veg*ans travelling!)

To be perfectly honest... If I were traveling w/animals... I'd just go to a cheap hotel where you enter your room from the outside, and sneak the animals in. They don't check your room when you check out, so by the time you're gone you don't have to worry about it.... I dunno... maybe that's just me...
