Hey everyone,

im not totally vegetarian yet. im making the transition with as much leeway from mum as i can get (at the mo, i only eat meat with dinner). So i just had dinner, and i ate the meat first. it wasnt a unpleasant taste but i was sooo relieved to get onto the veggies and i felt sooo much better. its really hard to dscribe. Does anyone else feel better when they eat veg and fruit and stuff? i cant stand hurting animals. is it the same with you?

Welcome to VeggieBoards!

When I first turned 'vegetarian', my mum persuaded me to continue eating fish, and I always felt like you just described while eating it. Eventually I grew independant and decisive enough to say I wouldn't eat it any more. I hope you manage to persuade your mum, but congratulations for taking the first steps into vegetarianism!

Hi, when I first went veg, of course everyone tried to make me still eat some meat, or seafood. I come from a family of hunters, so they really didn't understand! But I did it for the ANIMALS, not them, so I ate what I wanted.

Welcome.

I admire your courage and the positive direction you're going!

I initially had a hard time as a teen when I went veg because of well-meaning parents and grandmother etc., but persevenence certainly paid off... I felt better, I got better at navigating the situation, and my parents started eating more veg meals, though they are still omnivores with health problems, including high cholesterol, and are on Lipitor.

Anyway, keep going strong!

Welcome to VB!

You don't have to be a teenager to get grief from your family about not wanting to eat meat. I didn't go veg until I was 38. For a while, my parents would try to talk me into eating "just a little chicken" and "just a little fish" every week. I flat out refused. It's my body and my conscience. So there.
