I guess it doesnt help that they are made from leather in the first place but how about getting seat covers so youre not actually sitting on them as such.

feeling guilty over something you believe you can't avoid is pointless. understandable - but pointless. why don't you use that worry energy on something that would make you feel good?

Thats so sweet of you. Thanks for looking

I guess its kind of the 'leather before vegan' issue. People who have bought leather goods before they went vegan keep them as they arent fueling the demand anymore, as they arent buying new leather stuff.

That is too bad. I feel guilty just driving a car. I don't commute but did for almost a year. And did feel guilty about it. And who knows, I may need to again sometime.

Just try to drive as little as possible. Plan your trips for shopping etc so you don't go out of your way much.

Focus on what you CAN change for now! Set smaller goals to work yourself out of the situation. Making some progress will make you feel like you are doing something about it.

OK, here's a thing that might make you feel better. It's actually better for the environment if you keep an old car running rather than buying one of the new "eco-friendly" cars. The damage done to the environment by sourcing the materials for the new car is far worse. The Green Party actually follows this rule.
In respond to the UK government's proposal of giving a £2000 subsidy for a new car if car over ten years old is scrapped: " Doesn’t help environment, much of carbon cost of car is in manufacture. Need cars to last longer." http://www.greenparty.org.uk/assets/...April_2009.pdf
So DON'T feel guilty about the environment with your car!
(The main problem with gas-guzzling cars is if people buy brand new gas-guzzlers. )

But if you still feel bad about the environment, why don't you try saving up your loose change etc and then a couple of times a year donating it to a tree-planting project or something?

As for the leather, I don't really know what to suggest. Sorry.

When I hear anyone talk about their money problems, it makes me feel guilty. I'm sorry you lost your car.

I also feel guilty for owning and driving a car, even though it is a Prius, it's still terrible.

I blame Jesus.

We all have unavoidable situations. For example, my boss comes in nearly every day complaining about what the gas drilling companies are doing to the countryside around her home, and drilling is become more controversial in my state. Yet, I use natural gas in my home and pay $$ to the gas companies that are doing the drilling, so I feel I can't really say anything. Do I have the funds to tear out the gas-powered furnace system that the previous owners installed? No, I do not.
