I noticed that a vast majority of the members here are concerned about animal welfare. I'm a vegetarian but I honestly don't care much about animals. In fact, I kinda dislike animals because of how stupid they are. <-- please don't lecture me on this

I'm just wondering if there's anyone other than me that is a vegetarian only because they don't like animal products?

Well i think that on these boards people that became vegetarian only because they don't like animal products are pretty hard to find. I myself kinda liked the taste of meat but i couldn't stand the fact that animals were getting killed just to please my taste buds.

I think the blanket statement that animals are stupid is quite disrespectful to post on this forum. Your point could have been made without that statement.

So do you eat gelatin in things like haribos and other candy, or in poptarts? Would you not eat something because it had carmine in it? Do you avoid certain cheeses as they have rennet in? Theres plenty of other examples if you look for threads about hidden animal products.

Someone who doesnt like the taste of animal products would have no reason to avoid such things as they dont taste like an animal. Therefore, I find it hard to believe that someone who doesnt like animal products is a proper vegetarian.

I agree. Especially since the dumbest animals I've met are humans

You're probably gonna be pretty alone on this kind of forum, because this is a support forum, and is likely to attract people who don't get an awful lot of support in their day-to-day lives - that tends to be the AR-type veg*ns more than anything else. Not liking meat is something most people can comprehend, even if it's something they don't understand.

I'm curious; do people still associate you with a lot of the negative stereotypes?

JESUS F*CKING CHRIST! WHAT PART OF "PLEASE DON'T LECTURE ME ON THIS" DID YOU PEOPLE NOT UNDERSTAND? Forget it, I give up trying to fit in with other veggies.

So do you dislike mentally handicapped people too? How about babies?

Regardless, I think you have a very narrow view of what intelligence means. You judge it by one standard.

I did not lecture you on why your belief that animals are stupid is incorrect - which is what I assumed you meant when you said no lectures. I do think that the statement was completely unnecessary to the discussion you apparently wanted to have.

Also, the reason AR folks do not want to hurt animals does not have to do with intelligence. It has to do with the ability to suffer.

http://www.animal-rights-library.com...m/singer02.htm

That's also why we don't kick babies.

It's no wonder why meat eaters hate me before they know me. They're judging me by how other vegetarians behave. Why are you people so whiny and preechy?

I'm done on this forum. If anyone else posts a reply to this you'll be wasting your time because I won't be logging in anymore. If it wasn't for my distaste for meat, I would become a meat eater again just because of my experience here.

Or it might be because you charge in and say offensive things before you even get to know them?

Quote:

So do you do a lot of things out of spite? Even though you know it hurts someone innocent (animals)?

OK, I agree that the OP could have worded what s/he meant to say better, but I also don't think you guys should have jumped down his or her throat. Not everybody becomes veggie for AR reasons, I certainly didn't.

Wow, you consider what we said "jumping down his or her throat"?

Neither did I, however, I wouldn't have said someone that other people love very much 'stupid' especially since you cannot quantify intelligence, in my opinion.

If OP is going to say something that they KNOW is controversial (hence the "no lecturing" demand), on an anonymous internet forum, then they need to get a thicker skin.
